One Megadeth's most endearing qualities (maybe their ONLY one) was Dave Mustaine's decision to choose unlikely covers and mangle the lyrics (intentionally or not, who knows?) In "Boots", "I just found me a brand new box of matches" becomes "box-spring mattress". In "Anarchy in the UK" he substituted "cunt-like tendencies" for "council tenancies". And in his cover of Willie Dixon's "I Ain't Superstitious" he retained only the words "ain't", "superstitious", and "I".

Twisted Sister's version of "The Leader Of The Pack". Instead of changing the gender of "he" and "she", they changed point of view instead.

The Bangles changed the lyrics of "September Gurls" to reflect the fact they were gurls.

Moby's "That's when I realize it's over" from Mission of Burma's "Reach for my Revolver." I think just for the video.

Marmalade changed the end of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da from "and if you want some fun" to "and if you want some jam" - my Dad says the Beatles were fuming about it, poor things.

Joan Baez - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down "There goes the Robert E. Lee..."

Placebo changed "and her walkman started to melt" to "and her discman started to melt" in their cover of Bigmouth Strikes Again. It seemed pretty lame to me when I first heard it. Maybe it can be "iPod" next time someone covers it.

Check the next Morrissey live album.

Anti Nowhere League's cover of Ralph McTell's Streets of London changes a couple of lines like "I'll show you something to make you change your mind " to "I'll show you something to make you really sick".

Joan Baez - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down "There goes the Robert E. Lee..."

Doesn't she also refer to "so much" cavalry, as opposed to "Stoneman's cavalry"? Jeez, spend a buck on some sheet music.

"Jackie Wilson said, it was real you see..."

Um, no Kev, he didn't.
