lex pretend, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

"Temptation."

JN$OT, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

1. Temptation
2. Crystal
3. Ceremony

baaderonixx, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Temptation might just be one of the greatest songs ever written, ever, in the history of forever.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

That's no lie.

JN$OT, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

1) Temptation
2) Bizarre Love Triangle
3) Ceremony
4) Blue Monday
5) The Perfect Kiss, no wait, True Faith, no wait... argh!

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:35 (nineteen years ago)

Now I want to listen to New Order and I have none with me today. :-(

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

true faith came close, but, in the end, fine time

baaderonixx, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

if anyone votes for 60mph i will stalk them with a big scythe until the end of time.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

anyway. "temptation", but don't make me think about it more or i'll want to change my mind.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

I'm voting Procession in case no-one else does.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

I am at work, I cannot listen to netradio. :-(

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

If Temptation had the break from Perfect Kiss with the frogs 'n' stuff then it would win by a country mile.

ledge, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

Ceremony, with the proviso that I am voting for the original 3-piece version, not the remake with Gill.

Second choice would be EGG.

Dr.C, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

EGG you said egg

blueski, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm I only know the version of Ceremony on Substance, and the Joy Division one on Still. Where is the other version (I don't know if Gillian is on Substance one or not TBH)?

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

Versions of Ceremony :

1. Still - live at Birmingham (JD)
2. Heart and Soul JD box - rehearsal demo
3. Western Works demo - Steve Morris on vocals (bootleg)
4. Original 7" (3 piece) - only on CD on the 'Singles' 2CD set.
5. Remake 12" with Gill - most, but not all of the 12" singles are this version. It's on Substance, Retro and lots of other compilations.

Dr.C, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, EGG. Why?

Dr.C, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

1 temptation
2 perfect kiss
3 true faith
4 Run
5 blue monday
6 BLT

swap 2 and 3 round every other minute.

Alan, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Everything's Gone Green like an egg

Alan, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

BLT! Can I get a BLT with EGG?

bah xp

ledge, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

egg in yer blt sandwich?

Mark G, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

NO

damn x-post ruined

Alan, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

I'll take that as a http://www.enkiri.com/joy/records/waiting_for_the_sirens_call1.jpg then.

Mark G, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Dr C! I'll have to track down that 7" version then! I do love the Substance version.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 17 May 2007 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

I have four candidates and I don't think I can narrow them down any further... "Temptation", "True Faith", "Regret", "Thieves Like Us"

HI DERE, Thursday, 17 May 2007 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

would ditch 'Thieves' because of the 'when love is at home that's the best' line

would ditch 'Regret' because it's not v adventurous production wise (and i think this was as intrinsic to my preferred definition of NO), as good a song as it is

would ditch 'Temptation' because it's just TOO indie

bingo, but i voted 'BLT' anyway.

blueski, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

i read regret as roger ebert just then

696, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

"There's nothing I Roger Ebert"

HI DERE, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

It's been a while since I've listened to the radio, but for some reason one of our local alt-rock stations went on a big Love Vigilantes kick about two years ago. They played it once or twice every day during working hours; moreso than Blue Monday or anything else. It took this thread for me to realize it wasn't even a single.

My favorite New Order single is and always has been True Faith. Temptation follows shortly thereafter.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

I head the original "Confusion" on Monday and fell in love again.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

This has been perhaps the easiest choice in the history of ILM Polldom:

Temptation

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

egg/procession is an easier choice for me!

zappi, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

Bizarre Love Triangle for me.

Neil S, Thursday, 17 May 2007 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

the thing abt Confusion is that there are elements of the original version I like and elements of the Substance version I like. If you could mix them together then Confusion would be up there in my top three or four.

I voted BLT.

Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

Which version of Temptation are people thing of when they vote?

Original 7" (my favourite)
Original 12"
Substance Re-make

Dr.C, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

ALL OF THEM, Dr. "I Like The Early Stuff Better" C!

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't get to hear the original version of Temptation til I found the actual 7" a few years ago, so I grew up listening to the Substance version. I like both, although probably like the remake better.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

Kate, well yes I do like the early stuff better of course, but my second favourite New Order album (after Movement, obv) is WFTSC.

Dr.C, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

Obviously the first few notes of the Western Works demos is the Best New Order of all, because they're the EARLIEST :)

Dr.C, Thursday, 17 May 2007 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

Which version of Temptation are people thing of when they vote?

i spent ages going WHERE'S MY FUCKING POST GONE? and then realised it's on the other thread. bloody hell, today's been confusing.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

BLT

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

I was going to do a poll and created this image for it:

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

i think i like the solarised 'billy connolly' best. gf says it is tacky. which new order sleeve are you?

blueski, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

Went with "Thieves Like Us" because I love it and was afraid it would get overlooked, but otherwise, it would have to be "True Faith".

Sometimes, I'm also a "Regret"

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:46 (nineteen years ago)

spencer, i am typing this sitting under that very sleeve (fine time 12", not regret), which i have framed on my wall.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

I HAVE FRAMED IT TOO.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

It's in a pair, next to this:

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 17 May 2007 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

heh: i have "fine time" to my left, and then in front of me, on either side of the fireplace/chimney breast, the inner sleeves of "substance":

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 17 May 2007 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for "Temptation" and now feel like an idiot because I didn't pick "Bizarre Love Triangle," specifically the Pettibone mix.

Matos W.K., Friday, 18 May 2007 06:15 (nineteen years ago)

Aaaahhh, Nat played that great techno-ish mix of Temptation last night with no drums or guitars and the vocals all chopped up and in the wrong sequence, it made me so happy.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 18 May 2007 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

Thieves Like Us for me.

flowersdie, Friday, 18 May 2007 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

me too.

pisces, Friday, 18 May 2007 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

OMG I chose Ceremony over Everything's Gone Green? What's happening to me? A sea change, for sure.

Bimble, Saturday, 19 May 2007 03:37 (nineteen years ago)

Okay seriously this worries me. Why did I do that? Am I just drunk?

Bimble, Saturday, 19 May 2007 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

i am sure i will be in the tiny minority that voted for "Run 2"

electricsound, Saturday, 19 May 2007 03:39 (nineteen years ago)

After a decade of genius, New Order said "Let's lay down a track that will summarize all those rock-pop, punk-disco, organic-inorganic dichotomies that made us the greatest English-singing band on the planet. Then let's up the ante by putting those dichotomies into play in the first eleven seconds of the song, thus creating the most gorgeous opening in the history of recorded music." And so "Regret" was born.

Kevin John Bozelka, Saturday, 19 May 2007 04:13 (nineteen years ago)

Bahahaha. Okay, I give up, you win. I will have to listen to that song again, just for you.

Bimble, Saturday, 19 May 2007 05:45 (nineteen years ago)

I mean it does have one of the best openers in all of recorded music doesn't it? I'll give it that much.

Bimble, Saturday, 19 May 2007 05:46 (nineteen years ago)

Indeed. I read that, and have been playing Regret on repeat since.

I still voted for Ceremony though.

Roz, Saturday, 19 May 2007 05:47 (nineteen years ago)

"regret" is, fundamentally, the ur-new-order song. but i have an odd relationship with it because i heard the fire island mix first and that lives in a special place in my soul.

i am sure i will be in the tiny minority that voted for "Run 2"

i considered it very carefully. i'm glad someone is voting for it. underrated genius.

grimly fiendish, Saturday, 19 May 2007 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

Did I run this woo long?

Mark G, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

"i am sure i will be in the tiny minority that voted for "Run 2""

ISTR a thread where ned and i bimbled on about the greatness of this ("leaving on a jet plane" not withstanding)

Alan, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

I've always hated the way the drums sounded on "Run 2," but the instrumental break is the most ethereal passage the band's ever recorded.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 21 May 2007 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

What's the diff btw "Run" and "Run 2" again?

baaderonixx, Monday, 21 May 2007 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

hahahaha "bimbled"

HI DERE, Monday, 21 May 2007 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

that bimbling in full New Order - Technique

Alan, Monday, 21 May 2007 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

blimey, i didn't actually mean that specific post, though i guess it's about right!

Alan, Monday, 21 May 2007 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

sorry 'bimble' i never noticed a user with that name :-( it is my word anyway, get off it

Alan, Monday, 21 May 2007 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

You must have been fooled by pseudonyms then. I've been using the name Bimble here since April of 2004. It's a little late to claim it as "your word".

Bimble, Monday, 21 May 2007 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

temptation is easily the best thing they've ever done.

funny farm, Monday, 21 May 2007 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

Mark G, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 07:53 (nineteen years ago)

last chance!

Mark G, Thursday, 24 May 2007 07:26 (nineteen years ago)

it's so my word. (i have noticed you popping up for a few years now, sorry!)

Alan, Thursday, 24 May 2007 09:14 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha...Mark G you are really making me laugh this morning, between this and the Smiths poll thread. And I need to laugh because I've had this cold for 6 days now. Alan, I'll give you the word as long as you don't start calling yourself that here, then we'd have problems.

Bimble, Thursday, 24 May 2007 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

Temptation. Though the Substance mix kinda ruins it.

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 24 May 2007 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

I do feel like a shitty New Order fan because "Blue Monday" is by far my favorite song of theirs. Or at least my favorite single.

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 24 May 2007 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

Temptation (Substance) >>>>>>>>>>>> Temptation (original)

baaderonixx, Thursday, 24 May 2007 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

D:

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 24 May 2007 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

xpost, I strongly agree.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 24 May 2007 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

WAIT HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT 1963 WAS AN OPTION

HI DERE, Thursday, 24 May 2007 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, I'm surprised by the one vote for WFTSC.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 25 May 2007 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

Not mine, but I *love* that song.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 25 May 2007 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

Runaway winner!

Surprised by the big vote for Ceremont, but then I guess that's the vote for Joy Division fans that don't like New Order as much.

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 07:10 (nineteen years ago)

five years pass...

Brill image Spencer Chow!
