the latter!!
― moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 20 May 2007 01:56 (nineteen years ago)
i haven't heard all of the former, but judging from the incredible string of singles it spawned as compared with the hormone-crazed, dumbed-down lesson in "sexy" that is the latter, i'm going with Justified.

moonship otm
― deej, Sunday, 20 May 2007 02:49 (nineteen years ago)
yeah like no contest basically, "justified" has four masterpieces and basically nothing else, while "futuresex/lovesounds" stayed on rotation in my car stereo for three months straight. fs/ls by a mile.
― max, Sunday, 20 May 2007 03:28 (nineteen years ago)
Easily FutureSex/LoveSounds...There's no filler! -- I can't wait to see what he does next.
― Tape Store, Sunday, 20 May 2007 04:05 (nineteen years ago)
Cry Me A River > anything on FS/LS
― musically, Sunday, 20 May 2007 04:29 (nineteen years ago)
I might agree, but I need to think about it for a few days.
― Tape Store, Sunday, 20 May 2007 04:38 (nineteen years ago)
As an album, definitely FS/LS, seeing as i don't actually listen to Justified at all. But Justified's singles are peerless. This is as much a place/time thing as anything else though, i suspect.
― Tim F, Sunday, 20 May 2007 05:22 (nineteen years ago)
"cry me a river" is excellent (as are the other hot three singles on that album) but i think i actually prefer "my love" and "what goes around" to anything from "justified".
i basically started this album because FS/LS has been on repeat in GF's car stereo since it came out. OK, she's had "raw power" in there for 6+ months too and i don't think that's the best stooges album but it struck me today how EASY it has been to listen to the album straight through, again and again and again.
i don't think i've ever felt the need to skip a song, except maybe "summer love". sometimes i'll skip from the last song forward to "sexyback" but aside from that it's tremendously *consistent* and i'm taking a straw poll to see if people value that as much as i do.
― moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 20 May 2007 06:04 (nineteen years ago)
I love "Summer Love". Otherwise definitely agree with what you're saying here.
― Tim F, Sunday, 20 May 2007 06:06 (nineteen years ago)
Yeah, "Summer Love" is great. I get excited when it comes on the radio.
― Tape Store, Sunday, 20 May 2007 06:10 (nineteen years ago)
Top 40 radio has lowered my defenses to "Summer Love", which is really the only song on the album I had any defenses to, to begin with.
The "Justified has nothing to offer but the singles" line needs to offer beyond the singles line needs to be retired already, even if FS/LS is the better album. "Take It From Here" is great! "Nothing Else" is a damn good Stevie ripoff. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, as I am really damn tired right now.
― The Reverend, Sunday, 20 May 2007 09:05 (nineteen years ago)
you dont skip the three-6 track?
― deej, Sunday, 20 May 2007 09:51 (nineteen years ago)
the three 6 mafia track is one of the few on FS/LS which haven't grown off me.
― lex pretend, Sunday, 20 May 2007 10:04 (nineteen years ago)
The 36M track is funny, mostly due to Timbaland. And it's funny to hear Paul & Juice act like softies. Timabland aiming for 36M beats and ending up with T.I./Young Jeezy instead is good too. Actually, come to think of it, JT's kinda the worst thing about it, but still pretty enjoyable. Actually, I like the hook, in spite of this chop and screw shit being old and corny enough to land on goddamn Justin Timberlake records (can't wait his next album and its hyphy song!), especially the "OFF OF your MELody" part.
― The Reverend, Sunday, 20 May 2007 10:23 (nineteen years ago)
hyphy SNAP MUSIC
― The Reverend, Sunday, 20 May 2007 10:26 (nineteen years ago)
I knew nobody would prefer Justified. There's more variety on that record due to having more than 1 producer, even though the 2 non-neptunes/timbo tracks are pretty much unlistenable. I grew tired of FS/LS quickly, expecting it to be my favorite record of the year. Justified was far and beyond the record I listened to the most during 2003, except for "In Search Of" which was 2 years old at the time.
I like all 4 singles from Justified. I pretty much hate "Sexyback." I liked "What Goes Around" until it was on the radio constantly, whereas the overexposure of "Rock Your Body," if anything, made me love the song even more. Also I like "Let's Take A Ride," "Right With Me" and "Last Night" better than pretty much any of the FS/LS album tracks.

fs/ls for life.
― Tape Store, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:08 (seventeen years ago)
Sexy Ladies is the worst track, and it's so great!
― Tape Store, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:10 (seventeen years ago)
sexy ladies is not the worst track
― The Brainwasher, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:12 (seventeen years ago)
that bassline!! it's one of my faves
anyway yeah I guess fs/ls
i hate justin timberlake tho
― The Brainwasher, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:17 (seventeen years ago)
i have nothing against "sexy ladies"! It's my least favorite of 11 CLASSICS.
Also, Justin Timberlake is the most amazing artist today. Have you seen Alpha Dog?
― Tape Store, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:41 (seventeen years ago)
a ridiculous question what never shouldve been asked
better question: has such a unremarkable singer ever made music so great - boggles the mind really
― ice crӕm, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:53 (seventeen years ago)
there are a whole world of worse singers who have made great music
― The Reverend, Saturday, 16 August 2008 05:59 (seventeen years ago)
"unremarkable singer"
― ice crӕm, Saturday, 16 August 2008 06:00 (seventeen years ago)
good thread
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 16 August 2008 06:04 (seventeen years ago)
no sarcasm
the best part about fs/ls is that i got burned out on the singles (esp "love stoned") from the radio but since they're mostly all attached to pretty sublime second halfs it keeps the whole thing pretty fresh
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 16 August 2008 06:08 (seventeen years ago)
The "Justified only has 4 good songs" meme needs to take a seat. It's not good all the way through, per se, but there's at least a few awesome album cuts there, mostly the Neptunes songs. "Nothin' Else" is one of my favorite fake-Stevie songs. I'll even be generous and assume the lyrical awkwardness is part of the tribute.
― The Reverend, Saturday, 16 August 2008 08:38 (seventeen years ago)
hey, Stevie wrote awkward lyrics too!

Justified.. slightly more innocence/naivety in comparison gives it more charm, which was pretty much due to Neptunes.. Its best album-only tracks are far better than those on fs/ls, specifically "Last Night," "Nothing Else," "Let's Take A Ride," & "Right With Me."
― billstevejim, Saturday, 16 August 2008 13:33 (seventeen years ago)
"(And She Said) Take Me Now" is my favorite Justified album track. The others are ok to meh.
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 16 August 2008 13:34 (seventeen years ago)
Futuresex wollops justified as far as i'm concerned. Although justified contains the most gorgeous sleeper track i've ever hear(Last night) whose sublime grace is almost matched only by lovestoned.

Justified is a very good album, too! It's just not as good as FS/LS
