Euler, Sunday, 20 May 2007 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

the only sad songs that really work for me are the ones where there is a tension between the guy's bad-boy persona and the candid lyrics. Pantera's "Hollow" works, but better yet is

9. Limp Bizkit - "Behind Blue Eyes"

i don't like the guy in general but this song opens up my lachrymal canals like no other.

Jeb, Sunday, 20 May 2007 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

Jake Brown, Sunday, 20 May 2007 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

Red House Painters OTM

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 20 May 2007 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

23. Nizlopi - "LOL Dead Dad"

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 20 May 2007 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 20 May 2007 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

24. "Love's Gonna Get'cha" - Boogie Down Productions (seriously)

"Katy Song" by RHP is better yet (there have been other threads where this has been discussed).

Euler, Sunday, 20 May 2007 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

25. Johnny Cash - Hurt

Mordechai Shinefield, Monday, 21 May 2007 03:06 (nineteen years ago)

Wichita Lineman is OTM, although the time I cried to it was Johnny Cash's version.

Also:

26.) Drive-By Truckers - Angels and Fuselage

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 21 May 2007 03:11 (nineteen years ago)

27 Go-Betweens - Dive For Your Memory
28 Talk Talk - Wealth
29 Leonard Cohen - Famous Blue Raincoat
30 Heron - Lord and Master

Drooone, Monday, 21 May 2007 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

"Katy Song" doesn't seem as masculine in its emotiveness as "Michael." I mean Michael is all about dude missing his childhood best friend and their goofy heavy metal haircuts, "the daydreaming boy without a shirt on," etc. Katy Song is beautiful and heart-wrenching but doesn't seem stereotypically "manly" to me. Michael is a celebration of boyhood and being juvenile delinquents and nostalgia for simpler times.

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 21 May 2007 05:55 (nineteen years ago)

31. Rilo Kiley "A Better Son/Daughter"

I am not proud of this...

Saxby D. Elder, Monday, 21 May 2007 06:22 (nineteen years ago)

32. "O Superman"

JN$OT, Monday, 21 May 2007 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

on "Michael": ok, that makes sense, like Ringo walking along the canal in "A Hard Day's Night".

Taking the thread in that direction, I'll move along a tangent:

33. "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone" - Temptations

72. Thin White Rope: "July"

There seem to be two factors in these:

a) the song is just so beautiful/aching that it makes me cry
b) the song is one I happened to listen to repeatedly while going through the worst part of a breakup or breakdown, and hearing it still has an automisting effect.

the above is a b) case.

Jon Lewis, Monday, 21 May 2007 18:03 (nineteen years ago)
