How great are the Freemasons?

Their album "Shake Down" is basically completely and totally amazing. My only problem is that neither of the versions of "Rain Down Love" on the album are the superior single edit. But it's got Love on My Mind, Nothing But A Heartache (ILM fave), When You Touch Me (wow) and their mix of Faith Evans' Mesmerized* (double wow). Plus a bunch of other great tracks whose names aren't coming to me at the moment. And that's to say nothing of the stuff they've worked on lately that's not on their album...their mix of Beyonce's Ring the Alarm is nothing short of magical, and their mix of Sexual Healing that's hit the clubs is a masterpiece. If I had my way they'd remix every single R&B song ever.

*the original is wonderful too...why had I never heard of it until now?

Because the original mesmerized was not released as a single, the remix was the video/single mix.

In a similar vein, there's a Seamus Haji remix of "Umbrella".

I opened this expecting someone wanting it moved to ILE.

According to Wikipedia the song did get R&B airplay, which I assume was of the original and not the remix. And I found this video on Youtube.

Are the Freemasons Freemasons?

sexyDancer, Monday, 21 May 2007 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

I heard that they named themselves after the bar where they discovered the lead singer of their first single doing karaoke.

I agree on every count. The "Rain Down Love" single version is much better than the 12" (nice Daft Punk homage video too). Faith Evans "Mesmerised" is one of the best RnB tracks ever (managing to combine "modern" rnb elements with an old Motown feel)and the Freemasons version superbly executed.

"Love on my mind" however, is monumental - the 12" mix is simply devastating; I'd go so far as to say the best pop/ clubby house record of at least the last five years. Pure undiluted "big room" house that you can imagine attractive people (including girls) dancing to and oh-so-refreshingly free of underground pretensions.

I'll look for the 12" mix...I'm searching for alt versions of all the tracks on the album in case there's another instance of single mix > album mix.

Apparently they just remixed Beyonce's new single, "Green Light". The radio rip version on Youtube has absolutely dreadful sound so hopefully it will leak in HQ soon!

If the "Rain Down Love" version is the Walken edit this will basically be perfect.
