Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

i voted for kyuss, cuz it's the only album on there that i actually listen to. that made it easy. i got no hate for divine intervention, but i got no great love either. i never play it.

scott seward, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

oh wait i actually really like the downward spiral. oops. didn't see it. not that i ever really play that album either, but i know i really like it. probably even more than the kyuss album.

scott seward, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

Albums I like: Bruce Dickinson, Corrosion of Conformity, Dream Theater, Killing Joke, Kyuss, Machine Head, Megadeth, 9 Inch Nails, Nirvana, Prong, Queensryche, Rollins Band, Soundgarden, Stabbing Westward, Therapy?

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

despite the fact that I've heard like 4 albums in their entirety from this list I am positive that soundgarden can't be beaten

Just got offed, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:46 (nineteen years ago)

Out of those, I probably listen to COC, Killing Joke, Kyuss, Machine Head, Megadeth, 9 Inch Nails, Prong (snap your fingers, snap your neck!), Rollins Band, and Therapy? fairly often.

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:46 (nineteen years ago)

I will say that that Killing Joke record is severely underrated. It's probably the Killing Joke album I listen to the most. Just killer industrial rock.

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

sky valley. honorable mentions for the prong and COC discs. i liked a pantera song or two back then.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

Soundgarden by a country mile. Superunknown was the first CD I ever bought, and it still holds up to this day. It's just so sad to see what's become of Chris Cornell. I mean, Kim Thayil is collaborating with Sunn 0))), but him? Jesus...

(I do have a few others from this list, and they're not bad, but they rarely see the light of day. There are a few others which I don't have that I'd like to check out, though.)

MacDara, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 07:31 (nineteen years ago)

Kyuss with a strong challenge from Soundgarden. That Prong album was pretty shit hot, I wish I knew where I left it. This list has my favourite albums by a lot of these bands, I think cos this was a real formative year for me (I was 14)

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

It was between Kyuss and Soundgarden but it's the best Kyuss album, and I play it regularly , so that gets my vote.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

oh and I meant to say it was between Kyuss, Manics and Soundgarden.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

Kyuss, Manics or Therapy? for me, honourable mentions to Soundgarden and Pantera.

Neil S, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

The last good Therapy? album.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Kyuss or Rollins. Can't decide, so I abstain.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

I know what Geir will vote for.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

I was stuck between the Manics and the Beastie Boys - went for the latter eventually.

Forest Pines, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Don't abstain! Just pick one. Remember: only regret what you have done, not what you haven't. Meanwhile, Brigadier, Infernal Love was a damn good album, and that came right after Trouble gum. So you're wrong.

Jeff Treppel, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

No it wasn't. I had been a fan since the 1st ep, and Infernal Love was a HUGE letdown.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

I just wonder how many votes Oasis will get.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

Kyuss, because I just bought it again and it has that new CD smell...

"Soundgarden by a country mile. Superunknown was the first CD I ever bought, and it still holds up to this day. It's just so sad to see what's become of Chris Cornell. I mean, Kim Thayil is collaborating with Sunn 0))), but him? Jesus..."

Heh. Badmotorfinger was my first CD ever. But because I've been selling shit off lately, I can say that it isn't nearly as great as I remember.

Others from the list that haven't held up (to my ear) and that I've sold: Alice in Chains, Bad Religion, Collective Soul, Killing Joke (though someone just bought my Democracy single and I was happy it went to a good home), Live, NIN, Slayer, Stabbing Westward.
Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Pantera were better than I remembered (though I think Pantera still might get sold).

I eat cannibals, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 04:52 (nineteen years ago)

Badmotorfinger and NIN hold up for me. As does the Killing Joke. I still love Sap but Jar Of Flies isn't that great really.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 08:13 (nineteen years ago)

Tons of good stuff this year, so you have no excuse.

Yeah I have one - where's the fucking Metal?

Siegbran, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 08:34 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, I know those mags were completely out of touch at the time, still peddling the same tired grunge and moshcore cliches but that's one of the most depressingl yearlists ever.

Siegbran, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

(yes, that's an Oasis vote)

Siegbran, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

I would consider voting for De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas if it was on there

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

Geir did you vote oasis?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

I somehow doubt that Geir will be making an appearance on any thread where the words RAW/Kerrang/Metal Hammer are included as part of the title question.

JN$OT, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

He usually does. To complain Crowded House aren't on it and how that sort of thing is better than metal/hard rock. And that Q is a better magazine to do polls from as they have a varied list (hah)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

I shouldn't be voting either, as I've only heard about 8 of these (and don't care much for many of those, tbh), but I decided to go for Nirvana after all. METAL.

xp

Yeah, but I somehow think he got the message, insofar as these R/K/MH polls are concerned.

Maybe there's hope for us after all.

JN$OT, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

Oh I'm sure he's still voting. I've voted for songs/albums I've never heard in the past few weeks - you want democracy you take the risk of the ignorant taking power.

onimo, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Oh he will post soon enough reminding us how Oasis is better than any metal crap..

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

It was Metal Hammer btw that had Oasis in their list.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

I think they had Oasis in the 1996 list too.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

Strange that a smashing pumpkins b-sides comp got in the list

The Twisted Pollstarter, Thursday, 24 May 2007 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

haha beasties v manics v oasis v sugar = INDIE!

(ill comm got it)

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 24 May 2007 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

Sugar won the last one but i think more people will vote for the beasties and sugar will lose out. (F.U.E.L. is an underrated album).
Most of the potential Oasis voters probably won't click on the thread as it says Kerrang. (at least Jeff hopes so).

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 24 May 2007 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

this fell off the page and ends soon

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

well, in just over 24 hours.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:10 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! Forgot to vote. Machine Head for me.

Jeff Treppel, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

hahahahaha it's your poll!

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

BUMPIN BUMPIN

(i missed NIN on there, too, and played that alot back then.)

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Friday, 25 May 2007 05:14 (nineteen years ago)

Last day!

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Last 2 hours to vote.
I don't see a frontrunner But i wouldn't be surprised if Soundgarden or Nirvana won it via the lurker vote. NIN could be a definite good outside vote. Kyuss may do ok. I'd be ok with any of those winning really.

Who do you think/should win, jeff?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

oh and Vitalogy is Pear Jam's best record. I wonder if anyone voted for it.
And will the manics vote turn up in this poll?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

At the time I would've said Downward Spiral for sure, so I'm going to say it again now.

chap, Friday, 25 May 2007 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

What would you say now?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

Results! Sort of disappointing.

Jeff Treppel, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:03 (nineteen years ago)

Manics got more votes here than the NME/MM poll. Can't argue with the top 3 I suppose. Thought NIN would've done better.
Very surprised Kyuss won over Soundgarden/Manics/NIN/Nirvana.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

Oh and 2 people other than Geir voted Oasis.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

Jeff, do the 3 Oasis votes annoy you more than the 16 who voted they didn't like Led Zeppelin? ;)

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:12 (nineteen years ago)

Who the hells is Kyuss?

humansuit, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

One of the best rock bands ever. That's who they are.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:51 (nineteen years ago)

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

Can't seem to find pics of the line-up with Brant and Nick.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

Never heard of them, which is not surprising (for me). Interesting.

humansuit, Saturday, 26 May 2007 00:02 (nineteen years ago)

Holy Bible is a little trebly, but I still went for it over Live

Morley Timmons, Saturday, 26 May 2007 06:54 (nineteen years ago)

I should hope so!

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 26 May 2007 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that was a crappy joke. I heart Manics

Morley Timmons, Saturday, 26 May 2007 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

Never heard of them, which is not surprising (for me). Interesting.

Please tell me you've heard of the Queens of the Stone Age.

MacDara, Saturday, 26 May 2007 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure he has. I guess alex wasn't here to vote Killing Joke.

Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 28 May 2007 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't vote Oasis. Didn't vote in this poll at all. I see no point in specialist mags doing this kinds of polls. Plus "Definitely Maybe" isn't particularly good, with the exception of 2 or 3 tracks.
