So, the Don Cherry soundtrack for Holy Mountain was reissued in the recent Jodorowsky DVD box set. Anyone know if there are plans for this to see release on disc by itself? Other editions maybe?

FUCK!! NEED this. Man I hope they do release it seperately. I mean, I love Jodorowwsky but my bootleg copies of El Topo and Holy Mountain do the trick just fine. They really ought to, I'm sure there are enough Don Cherry fans out there who don't really give a shit about Jodorowksy.

How much is this box set going for, retail, anyway?

My friends from Finland covered the main theme from Holy Mountain live a few years ago - one of the most beautiful thinsg I've ever seen

Manalishi, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:56 (nineteen years ago)

I bought the boxset recently off ebay for about $40. Don't know if that's a good price..prolly not.

Drooone, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 00:58 (nineteen years ago)

Amazon is selling it for $45. That's really not a bad price. $40 is even better. Hmmmm...

Anyone wanna buy some bootlegs?

Ha ha ha. I'll 'wishlist' this and hope the soundtrack shows up on slsk

Manalishi, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 01:02 (nineteen years ago)

i bought the box for 35-40 something in a store and it had a sticker on it that said "list $50". it's pretty epic.

jaxon, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

I got it for $30 from deepdiscountdvd.com.

Brent, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 02:24 (nineteen years ago)

man, for $30, I might as well just throw down for the box set and sell the DVDs on ebay. i'm sure there's someone out there who doesn't even want the soundtrack. thanks for the tip!

if you want just the music, the mp3s are super easily found online. google it and it's w/in the first few pages.

It's very bizarre when a dream you've had for years finally comes true. You know what I'm sayin'?

inhibitionist, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

Actually the reissue of the films themselves makes me for the first time want to go out and buy a DVD player! Especially if the soundtrack CD is included!

Now, who the hell's going to do the decent thing and reissue Relativity Suite (and all the other non-Bley/Mantler JCOA issues)?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

The pirate copy I dled whoops a lotta ass, as you'd expect from the talent and period involved.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

is the Jodorowsky & Sounds of Joy Music of El Topo LP as yet still unreissued on CD? i think i like that one even more than the actual soundtrack.

Mr. Hal Jam, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

The DVD of Holy Mountain from this box is a huge improvement over the bootleg vhs I had seen before. The local video store is renting each film with its soundtrack, conveniently. The director's commentary is illuminating.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

er, make that Jodorowsky & Shades of Joy. same question.

Mr. Hal Jam, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

just threw down for the boxset at deepdiscount.com: reg price there $30 - plus the limited-time 20% off code "dvdtalk" + free shipping = $24. Now's the time if you want this...

ooh goin there now thx for the tip

Wow that's some sweet bargain hunting. I've watched a couple of the films from the box set, they're pretty great quality (unlike the Fantastic Planet dvd I recently bought which was probably the worst dvd I have ever paid money for).

Drooone, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, that's a great heads up, even for me in the UK, where the domestic box costs £40 at least. With the mighty exchange rate I've just bagged the box for about £16!!!

stop raping us just because we're the third world.

i fully expect all you brits to patronize our botched economy. there are many bargains to be had. keep up the good work!

oo, Thursday, 7 June 2007 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

Now that's what I call a special relationship, ho ho lol.

myopic_void, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

hmm i bought the "holy mountain" DVD by itself. that was dumb.

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

i've watched it six times in the last 2 weeks. so good.

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

I have some Jodorowsky book sitting in the bookshelf here somewhere. I keep meaning to read it.

jim, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

is it in English...?!? I'm annoyed the majority of his stuff is not available in English in America.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 7 June 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

It's in spanish, translated from French. It's called "la sabiduría de los chistes" (the wisdom of jokes) and is a collection of different writings by Jodorowsky that are split into three sections. First section is a selection of jokes and Alejandro's commentary on them. He picks a deeper and profound meaning from them and compares this to his tarot reading. There is no correct way to read the tarot but you can come towards wisdom/different ways of thinking through interpreting how the cards lay in a certain way. I've only read this bit and it's quite good. The other two bits are about koans and Sufi stories. Jodorowsky's point being that there is a similarity between all of them. The linking point being that the Sufi stories are told to children and are humorous but are also held up as good spiritual teachings or whatever.

Reviving this apropos to the boxset arriving today. Just about to delve in.

jim, Thursday, 28 June 2007 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

interesting - I've never heard Jodorowsky reference Sufism. I can definitely see it being attractive to him - it lacks the sort of asceticism/nihilism of eastern mysticism which seems to annoy him so much. Sufism is big on humor and a love of the physical world, among other things...

the box set is great btw, although that silent film La Cravate is totally silly and obnoxious after like 5 minutes

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 28 June 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

must get ASAP

sleeve, Thursday, 28 June 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

I watched the film tonight. Slightly impaired by the fact that Alejandro sounds like a lot of my dad's Chilean friends speaking bad english when I was a kid. Don Cherry really doesn't do much on the soundtrack either.

The sufism in Jodorowsky's work is basically all over the shop and well known.

jim, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

This is the figure that Jodorowsky talks about in "la sabiduría de los chistes" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasreddin

jim, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:27 (eighteen years ago)

seven years pass...

This would be one of my favorite soundtracks ever if not for the inclusion of many mood-destroying tracks, like the obnoxious 'psych jam' and the one that ends with the gutteral screaming

Made an iTunes version of mostly just the Don Cherry jams and that hits the spot p nice
