696, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

"My Love."

JN$OT, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

i am ashamed of my country's taste sometimes.

The UK didn't let James Blunt or Daniel Powter get to number 1.

The Twisted Pollstarter, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

i wish! (try 2005)

lex pretend, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

My Girl - Justin Timberlake feat. T.I.

ha ha...

JN$OT, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

"Bad Day" didn't get to #1 in the UK.
xp

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

hips don't liw would be my foavorite but i find wycleff to be pretty annoying.

mizzell, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

I thought this was a music board.

humansuit, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Uh?

I voted for "Promiscuous."

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

According to the singles list I made in December, my opinion is "My Love" > "Irreplaceable" > "Ridin'" > "London Bridge" > "So Sick" > "Check On It" > "S.O.S." and disliked almsot everything else. At this point I'm sick of most of them, though, so I could really go either way. I think I'll vote for Fergie, which seems like the only option more heretical than "Laffy Taffy."

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

Just look at this list. Come on. Is this actually the worst year for top 40 music, ever?

humansuit, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

Try looking at any other list of #1s from the past decade, most of which feature barely half as many songs. That alone I think makes 2006 seem more interesting and varied, at least. But then, judging any year by its chart-toppers alone is a fool's game.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Actually judging every year by it's totality is the way to spin down into oblivion. I don't want to write a dissertation, I just want to point out that these songs suck.

humansuit, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

what songs do you like?

lex pretend, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not suggesting that you listen to every song ever before having an opinion, but you made a statement about "top 40 music" as a whole and #1s are a pretty small piece of that pie.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

"What You Know" wasn't a #1??

Chamillionaire it is.

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

I like that song "I'm stuck in a semantic maze with a guy from Baltimore." I think it was 85 cent.

humansuit, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

"What You Know" peaked at #3, I believe.

jaymc, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

deej, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

i voted for Cham

deej, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

If I had to give a top 5, it'd be Nelly Furtado, the two J. Timberlake songs, Rihanna, and Chamillionaire.

jaymc, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

Ne-Yo, obviously, followed by "My Love."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

(though "Sexy Love" is superior)

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

Voted for the last option, as I refuse to vote for James Blunt.

(Even a UK #1s poll would be difficult, but at least there's Orson)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

There is a UK poll

So, yeah, with a couple exception, I'm cool with all of these.

The Reverend, Thursday, 24 May 2007 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

Or maybe just easy to please.

The Reverend, Thursday, 24 May 2007 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

I picked Promiscuous, but I got confused and thought "My Girl" was a song I didn't know - otherwise it would have been a tough call between those two.

Whoa, the Britain one - several artists I've never even heard of, plus LEO SAYER IS BACK?

Hurting 2, Thursday, 24 May 2007 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

The same way Steve Winwood came back after "Call On Me," so, no.

musically, Thursday, 24 May 2007 05:08 (nineteen years ago)

The Sun had a leo sayer campaign a few years ago.

The Twisted Pollstarter, Thursday, 24 May 2007 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

1 hour to go

The Twisted Pollstarter, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

The last decent song to top the US singles chart was "All For You" by Janet Jackson back in 2001. To find a really great US chart topper one has got to go back to "Kiss From a Rose" in 1995.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

(Most UK chart toppers are rubbish too, but Oasis alone have had 8 chart toppers that have been way better than anything that has topped the US chart since then)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

The best (early) Oasis singles didn't top the UK charts though!

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 03:55 (nineteen years ago)

WHO VOTED FOR TAYLOR HICKS?!?!?!?!

Tape Store, Friday, 25 May 2007 03:58 (nineteen years ago)

Who is Taylor Hicks?

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 25 May 2007 03:59 (nineteen years ago)

taylor hicks is ghost rider, duh

pretzel walrus, Friday, 25 May 2007 04:07 (nineteen years ago)

Taylor Hicks ghost rides the whip.

The Reverend, Friday, 25 May 2007 04:53 (nineteen years ago)

The real question is WHO THE FUCK VOTED FOR JAMES FUCKING BL- Oh, that's right.

The Reverend, Friday, 25 May 2007 04:56 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't. Even though it may be the least shitty US #1 of 2006, it was still too shitty to vote for.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 25 May 2007 07:31 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, back to are regularly scheduled program:

-UNT!!??!

The Reverend, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

"are" "our", etc.

The Reverend, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

wow @ "So Sick" getting the same number of votes as "You're Beautiful" and "Do I Make You Proud."

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

"So Sick" would be my second choice. I can't believe I didn't nom it for the '06 poll.

The Reverend, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, 2 people actually voted for Fergie.

billstevejim, Friday, 25 May 2007 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

Haha yeah, I wanna know who the other person was! Like I said, it's probably more like my 4th favorite option overall, but I'm less sick of it than the others.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 25 May 2007 16:29 (nineteen years ago)
