Dear Bob:

In response to Bryan Ferry's recent covers album, do you have plans to record an album called Ferryesque?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 20 July 2007 23:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Why, on Modern Times, do you sound complacent, for the first time in 45 years?

Kenny, Saturday, 21 July 2007 00:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Writing his memoirs helped him finally put a lot of things he'd been thinking into words.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 21 July 2007 00:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Why, on Modern Times Planet Waves, do you sound complacent, for the first time in 45 years?

Fixed.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 21 July 2007 00:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Nonsense. Dylan's been bad lots of times before, but never complacent.

Kenny, Saturday, 21 July 2007 00:52 (sixteen years ago) link

if complacent = completely at ease in a godlike way, then i TOTALLY agree!!

outdoor_miner, Saturday, 21 July 2007 00:54 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a difference between complacency and assurance; he's attained the latter. Complacency denotes a large amount of smugness, and I can't accuse Dylan of being smug lately.

Dear Bob,

When are you gonna make an album with the RZA?

gabbneb, Saturday, 21 July 2007 03:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Complacent? That's like saying Blonde On Blonde is complacent after Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61.

Dylan attained "assurance" in 1966, if not earlier.

Hello Mr Zimmerman…

Why you laud Alicia Keyes in that song on Modern Times? Do you not realize that she is quite terrible? Or does she merely remind you of that background singer you had a kid with?

Thank you!

man Time Out Of Mind sounds so good tonight; hot as fuck (qua northern Europe so no a/c), twelve minutes into "Highlands": it's zing after zing and the zing's mostly on him (the "I'd trade places with any of them" line e.g.) and I can just imagine the band going, "haha it's one of these" (thinking of "New Danville Girl", "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands", you get the deal): would like to listen really closely and see if I can pick out little details, the way that if you sit in the hot air with the insects buzzing you eventually single out slight modulations.

Euler, Monday, 24 May 2010 20:22 (thirteen years ago) link

favorite story about "highlands" is when someone asked Bob if he'd release a short version of the song. dylan says: "that is the short version!"
