Human brains. And the blood of bats to wash it down. Yummy!

Julio Desouza, Sunday, 21 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I've always found that it's best to drink human blood when eating human brains. It's never quite the same with bat bloody, dog blood, or - yuck - pigs blood.

Andrew, Sunday, 21 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Human blood, human brains- andrew, that's so boring!

If Jhonen Vasquez is right then Cheery Fizwizz or Cherry Brainfreeze. But he's being sarcastic, so i'd have to say:
  • Red Wine
  • Absinthe
  • More Red Wine
  • Snake Bite
  • Spinach Salad, preferably with red wine viniagrette dressing
  • Steak cooked Rare, prefereably served with red wine
  • Angel Food Cake Soaked in red wine.
  • Andes Mints washed down with the last of the Absinthe
  • Red wine as a nitecap

All of these sound a good idea - this is because me, Emma and Mark S nodoubt are now GOTHS cos of Queen of the Dammed. I think olives are goth although I must say on my rare visits to a GOTH PAD I have been fed cheese and wine oh yeah and CURRY. Punks only evah drink either GOB or SPECIAL BREW.

geeta, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Tracer Hand is correct.

  • Red Wine
  • Meow Mix
  • More Red Wine

But it has to be the Moist Beef, not the Crunchy Turkey and Lamb. Crunchy Turkey and Lamb is for the Industrial bolthead crowd.

Hmmm. Please, Elucidate.

Lord Custos II, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I always see the most goths hanging out around Taco Bell, largely because they have the cheapest food.

I've never seen one smoking menthols. It always clove or Newport.
and oddly, most of the goths I have known have been vegetarian, if not vegan...
and to think some pretend to be haemovores.

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Thursday, 5 December 2002 23:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

Goth food is like, you know, a hamburger, with some makeup on it, or maybe a pizza with pepperoni and eyeliner, or maybe a cold one with some black hair dye.

On a completely different note, my favorite new cocktail is what I like to call the Palindrome. It's equal parts Crown Royal and Royal Crown.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Thursday, 5 December 2002 23:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've never seen one smoking menthols. It always clove or Newport

Newports ARE menthol cigarettes.
Goths like soy burgers a lot. And goths who eat meat? Yeah, taco bell. But taco bell is pretty much everybody food, if you're short on cash or it's after ten.

Tom Millar (Millar), Friday, 6 December 2002 01:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

Actually the majority of the Goths that I know seem to favour Burger King...which is...eerily appropriate...

Disclaimer: Not all Newports are menthol. They sell more than one kind.

i have def seen goths eating burritos at 3 am though

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 22 March 2009 08:46 (fifteen years ago) link

in fact i know some teenage goth types that only eat burritos, nothing else. except maybe they are not real goths? i mean, they wear all black and makeup and combat boots but the clothes are fairly baggy and they usually have dyed red hair or something like that, a wallet chain and an anime t-shirt (black). maybe that's not a goth, maybe they're mutant juggalos or something.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 22 March 2009 08:49 (fifteen years ago) link

But I wasn't talking about mexico, or mexican goth culture, or if goths eat mexican food.

i mean the food ITSELF.....the food itself seems very un-goth to me.

i can't really say why.

like if a burrito was a sentient being, i don't think it would listen to bauhaus.

be on the treadmill - uh! - like OK GO (M@tt He1ges0n), Sunday, 22 March 2009 15:01 (fifteen years ago) link

TS: "what would be the most aesthetically appropriate food for Goths?" vs. "what in the real world do actual goths actually wind up eating?"

For the former, I'm thinking venison (and other game) and red wine, things that in Renaissance humoral medicine were thought to lead to melancholy.

For the latter, burritos OTM.

Neotropical pygmy squirrel, Sunday, 22 March 2009 15:47 (fifteen years ago) link

"if a burrito was a sentient being ...."

almost deserves its own thread.

so if a burrito were a sentient being what kind of music WOULD it listen to?

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:10 (fifteen years ago) link

ok that was too easy because the genre was named after the food

suppose there was a type of music called burrito, what would it sound like?

apparently there is some dj or mc from LA called gray kid who has a catchphrase that goes something like "beats like burritos, hot n heavy" but that sounds a bit too much like a description of his shit or something for me

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:17 (fifteen years ago) link

well his shit might have some relation to burritos, to be fair

iatee, Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:19 (fifteen years ago) link

The least goth food has got to be a McDonald's hamburger, 'cause it's the most common, ordinary, unspecial food in the world. And it's meat.

plenty chong (libcrypt), Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

OK, maybe not the world, but the goth-having parts.

plenty chong (libcrypt), Sunday, 22 March 2009 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Proposal for discussion: gelatin (especially in molded salads) is as ungoth as food gets:

1) It is (usually) derived from animals, yet doesn't provide the savage pleasures of eating meat.
2) It comes in perky and cheerful colors.
3) It is associated with midwestern-American middle-class white-bread cuisine.
4) Jello shots are favored by the sort of fratboys who, back in high school, delighted in giving wedgies to anyone they didn't like.

it was!!

this is what jonathan gold had to say about it:

"Still, I always end up with the quail in the traditional black mole, so dark that it seems to suck the light out of the airspace around it, spicy as a novela and bitter as tears, a mole whose aftertaste can go on for hours. La Tía’s mole negro appears so glossy and rich that I am always tempted to test its consistency by stabbing an index finger into it, and the resulting stain lingers as long as the empurpled digits of patriotic Iraqi voters. The last time I was as inspired by glossy black, it was part of Charles Ray’s infamous sculpture Ink Box, and it was enshrined in a major museum of art."
