Tape Store, Monday, 3 September 2007 20:53 (sixteen years ago) link

That songwas #3 in the UK?!?!?! WTF?!?!

Tape Store, Monday, 3 September 2007 20:57 (sixteen years ago) link

All of those are awful except "Ticket to Hollywood"

Hurting 2, Monday, 3 September 2007 21:04 (sixteen years ago) link

That Fonseca track is awesome!

Tape Store, Monday, 3 September 2007 21:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Yo Te Quiero is pretty good once it gets going.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 3 September 2007 21:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Good find with that obscure Bob Sinclar track, which definitely was not the top 10 in EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY in 2006. I still listen to it all the time, summer anthems don't get any better, really.

musically, Monday, 3 September 2007 21:27 (sixteen years ago) link

The Fonseca track is the worst.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 3 September 2007 21:33 (sixteen years ago) link

WTF?!?!?! I can't get enough of "Superstars." His voice bothered me at first (prof. Eddie Vedder impersonator?), but it's grown on me...I love how the guitar melds with the whistle line at 2:35.

And I live in the United States; I don't get Bob Sinclar, kthx.

Tape Store, Monday, 3 September 2007 21:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, and more knowledgeable people should contribute songs.

Tape Store, Monday, 3 September 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link

#5 in Japan: Tokyo Jihen - Killer Tune

(I love Shiina Ringo and Tokyo Jihen, but this song isn't work so well for me.)

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 3 September 2007 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link

#1 in Indonesia: Rihanna Feat. Jay-Z - Umbrella
#5 in Indonesia: The Samsons - Kisah Tak Sempurna

(I'm just looking this stuff up, I'm not knowledgeable.)

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 3 September 2007 23:48 (sixteen years ago) link

To scour foreign pop.

gr8080, Monday, 3 September 2007 23:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I live in the US too! Come on, we've been through so many Idol threads together, you should know that! I suppose this is the only country where it didn't make it to the top 10 on the main 100, but I know it was #1 FOREVER on the dance charts in our humble little country.

musically, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 01:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I know you're American. :)

I guess I just don't keep up w/ dance. :(

Tape Store, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 01:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I listen to the local dance station when at work, and it tends to be 1/2 remixed American chart hits and 1/2 various songs from Europe.

Here's are my recommendations, all of them brilliant, in the style of an over-exuberant Amazon review:

September - Cry For You (10/10, very Swedish Kylie!!!!)
Monrose - Hot Summer (9/10, German girl group as if Timbaland produced them!!!)
Unklejam - What Am I Fighting For? (10/10, dig the Klaxon-y video!!)
Booty Luv - Don't Mess With My Man (10/10, puts the original to shame!!!)

musically, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 02:02 (sixteen years ago) link

oh man, "hot summer" was EVERYWHERE in berlin a month ago. i thought it was okay.

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 03:14 (sixteen years ago) link

liking the september song! "september (all over)" is aces as well

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 03:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I like the Wisin y Yandel "Yo te Quiero" track. They often manage to add a bid of melody or some unorthodix rhythmic elements that prevent me from saying this is just stereotypical reggaeton.

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 03:44 (sixteen years ago) link

If you like "Cry For You," check out the album version, which is a little slower and spacier, and her latest track from her new album, which is coming out later this month.

musically, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 03:58 (sixteen years ago) link

David Fonseca does have a really off-putting voice. It's like Cherie Currie crossed with Brandon Flowers.

Arthur, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 05:41 (sixteen years ago) link

This is the Sandy e Junior one on Brazilian Sunday variety TV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoTFI0MFxrM&mode=related&search= Check out those dance routines!

Daniel Giraffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 07:33 (sixteen years ago) link

this is a great idea for a thread.

#16 France Julie Zenatti - Princesse (Tango)The French Gwen Stefani, perhaps?

Meanwhile, this is the charttopper Koxie - Garcon. I don't know what I think about this.

danzig, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 08:25 (sixteen years ago) link

HAHAHA

#7 in Germany: Bushido-Alles verloren

via Wikipedia: Bushido (September 28, 1978 in Bonn, Germany), born Anis Mohamed Youssef Ferchichi, is a German rapper whose style is strongly influenced by American Gangsta rap. He also uses the pseudonym Sonny Black. Bushido sucks!!

AND THE NETHERLANDS! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! Worst taste ever?
1. Guus Meeuwis - Proosten
2. Mika - Relax (Take It Easy)
3. Jeroen van der Boom - Jij bent zo
4. James Blunt - 1973]
5. Gerard Joling & André Hazes - Blijf Bij Mij

And video of the week: #5 in Slovakia, HORKÝŽE SLÍŽE - RnB Soul

Tape Store, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 01:16 (sixteen years ago) link

ok that 2nd dude's lyrics couldn't possibly warrant his behavior.

tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:19 (sixteen years ago) link

the track is good though, could use more of a bridge or something

tremendoid, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Booty Luv - Don't Mess With My Man (10/10, puts the original to shame!!!)

I wouldn't say that. How different does it even sound to the Mood II Swing remix on the original release?

blueski, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Pink's "Dear Mr. President" hit number one in Austria a couple of weeks ago, at least partially because because they show the video with German subtitles in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland -- it's kinda creepy how many Austrians wanted to talk to me about the song when I was there last month, as if it were unimaginable that an actual AMERICAN might actually PUBLICLY OPPOSE the BUSH ADMINISTRATION. At least two folks asked me if anybody in the States realized that Pink was a genius before the single was released. They're always crushed when I tell them she didn't have the guts to release the song as a single in the States.

Nubbelverbrennung, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Booty Luv - Don't Mess With My Man (10/10, puts the original to shame!!!)

as in "you can have my husband but please don't mess with my man"???

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 12:21 (sixteen years ago) link

#9 in Argentina: Belanova - Cada Que...

Tape Store, Monday, 19 May 2008 03:35 (fifteen years ago) link

It's like Swygart Jr.

jaymc, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 03:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Seems as good a place as any to mention this, which we have been running for the last few weeks. There's a few intriguing games up there now. I have been managing Italy, btw.
