Should My Bloody Valentine Make A Metal Album?

If only those shoegaze bands would reform and make metal records ;)

I'd love MBV to do that actually.

ah, god, that would be about the best thing ever.

-- grimly fiendish, Sunday, 30 September 2007 16:45 (2 days ago) Bookmark Link

Doubt MBV fans would see it that way.

Which would be part of the fun :)

hmm ... most MBV fans i know would. as i've said (many times, increasingly tediously): my journey to metal began with shoegazing, and i think that's the same for a lot of us more, er, peripheral metal fans.

but yeh, there are probably a heap of others who'd think it was a shit idea. they're just wrong.

no, cause... no.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 16:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Why not?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:14 (sixteen years ago) link

yes, cause ... IT WOULD RULE.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:36 (sixteen years ago) link

especially w/ cookie-monster vocals on it.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I could imagine Kevin Shields guesting with Sunn o))) actually.
Or with Jesu.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:37 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't think they should do anything new, it'd only be a letdown.

max r, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:38 (sixteen years ago) link

the bigger letdown has been the fact they haven't done anything new.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:47 (sixteen years ago) link

maybe if they'd made another album a couple of years after loveless...

i think the time has passed.

max r, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link

What about a shoegaze prog-out with three tracks, lasting about 39 minutes in total? Just a thought.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link

They should at least try make a new album. They don't have to release it if it's not up to scratch.

Wonder if they really ever did make a drum n bass album mixed with heavy guitars that they were rumoured to have done in the mid 90s.
x-post

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Louis, how about a 1 track album that lasts 79 mins like corrupted?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:18 (sixteen years ago) link

That would either be superb, or clumsily disappointing. I'd like to see Shields take something like that on, though.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

He should try it at least.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I'll vote no, cause I just don't think it would work somehow. I imagine a Sunn o))) collaboration might, though.

Soukesian, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:40 (sixteen years ago) link

I think I remember Shields judging crack cocaine superior to the MBV DnB LP.

Which one do you like?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 19:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Anyone in favour of MBV making a metal album then? Only Shallow is practically metal anyway. So a whole album of bludgeoning guitars would be awesome.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:15 (sixteen years ago) link

just rock Melvins' "Lysol" and call it a day

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Loomer comes the closest. The first second of it especially. You never hear that sound again, unfortunately. Like something heavy's been dropped.

dreamsonvhs, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd really love them to do this now. Definitely could see Kevin guesting with Sunn o))). You wouldn't be able to see him for all the dry ice though!

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 23:03 (sixteen years ago) link

what the hell defines metal in this context? i doubt they're very practiced in metal technique, probably not big listeners to metal, so it's like... should neurosis make a hip-hop album? they've got DRUMS in their music, after all.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 04:38 (sixteen years ago) link

should MBV make a REALLY LOUD MBV album? yes. a metal album? wouldn't work.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 04:39 (sixteen years ago) link

We don't know what they listen to though. You just never know.

every now and then, i think that a metal-version of MBV would sound a lot like the deftones (which would be a good thing).

Eisbaer, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm sure Chino said when making White Pony that he had been listening to a lot of stuff like that. And there's certainly LOADS of metal bands influenced by MBV and shoegaze bands now.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Jesu sounds like a slow metal MBV in places.

yes. i think that might have been something not unlike the point whiney was making by posting a picture of their first album.

anyway: RESULT! er, theoretically.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 13:46 (sixteen years ago) link

If only it could happen. I wonder if all the votes are just MBV fans who are desperate for just ANY kind of MBV album after all this time!

eleven years pass...

Never seen this topic before I ran a search just now, BUT.

'Feed Me With Your Kiss' came around on shuffle and I thought something I've never thought before: "This is the least competent metal song I've ever heard."

I was thoroughly amused by this thought and to discover that others share it (or have shared it) is doubly delightful. You guys are great.👍🏻

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 18 February 2019 18:45 (five years ago) link

I guess ILM invented Deafheaven, Liturgy etc
