or They Might Be Lemon Drops

the link between echo & the bunnymen and the stone roses. listen to the song "out of hand" and you can actually hear an echo song turn into a stone roses song. it's uncanny. "inside out" still sounds good. there has to be a thread on the friggin' mighty lemon drops.

"Inside Out" alone makes them classic, with "At Midnight" sealing the deal. I find listening to the albums all the way through unnecessary.

I played the hell out of their first three records back in the day and while i haven't listened to their records in quite a while, i remember how "precise" they were mixed. Very efficient little doses of energy and tons of fun.

No doubt scott, "Out of Hand" is the friggin' missing link between the Bunnymen and the Roses - uncanny!

Same here. I think there was a sameyness about their songs that eventually bored me. I should dig some stuff out and give them another try.

Some decent singles, but far from exciting. "Inside Out" and "Unkind" are great.

The Echo and the Bunnyisms loomed to large for me. At heart they could have been a fun pop band but all the portentiousness they brought to their relatively simple oeuvre spoils it slightly. Case in point - Pop Will Eat Itself's version of "Like An Angel" is vastly superior to the original because it's just a fun run-through of what is no more than a fun pop song. The original gives it this self-important air that is totally inappropriate.

Some good songs though.

agreed (for all the echo copyisms, this band had their thing locked down.)
ok,
they may not been original but damn i loved them in a guitar band dry spell (shop assistants/godfathers/woodentops etc)

the link between echo & the bunnymen and the stone roses.

wow, theres a link i never expected on ILM..
for those of us less educated in the late 80s, this band, along with that petrol emotionn, and the mutha fuggin godfathers were the only uk based guitar based bands of the post'c86 chaos that created a noise that i liked.
of course, Age of Chance along with various others discovered samples
.. but TMLD held firm to their sound and for for that i have come to realise that i will take no more of this "f*ckin' shit ........."
