Most are excellent, but "Ghosts" is one of the best songs ever.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Wow no takers on this thread. I voted with Geir.

Surprised no one else has commented on this. Japan are arguably more deserving than Duran Duran of their 'once regarded as new romantic toss, now reclaimed as post-punk masterpiece' status.

ghosts duh

ciderpress, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

Noooo! Not Ghosts! I beg to differ. I'm so tired of that song, please. I'll take Art of Parties.

Bimble, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

Sons of Pioneers

Ghosts is SO overrated. So ponderous. My least favourite track on the album. Art of Parties for me too.

Ghosts, OBVIOUSLY.

The only song I've heard with David Sylvian is Transit, his collaboration with Fennesz. I love the lyrics, and his vocals, and of course the music. Should I pick up this album?

trashthumb, Sunday, 21 October 2007 05:22 (eighteen years ago)

except for "Ghosts" this album doesn't have any of the ambient pop that he spent most of his solo career making. it's mostly post-punk.

the thing that's most similar to "Transit" is his most recent album Blemish which even has another track with Fennesz. BUT his best album is either Gone To Earth or Secrets of the Beehive, the former being pop with ambient textures and huge drums and Fripp guitars, and the latter being a more folky Nick Drake inspired album.

"The Art Of Parties" is Fonkay

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 21 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Shame few people voted. The results seem OK though, except "Still Life In Mobile Homes" should have had more votes.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 21 October 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

Ah crap I havent been looking at ILX in a week, I missed this one. I would have voted for "Cantonese Boy" or "Art of Parties" - though I prefer the single remix of AoP.

Trayce, Monday, 22 October 2007 03:54 (eighteen years ago)

it's mostly post-punk.

It is not.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 02:35 (eighteen years ago)

I wouldn't call it post-punk, no. The first two Japan albums are post punk, but most of "Tin Drum", like "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" and "Quiet Life" before it, is pure New Romantics.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 07:52 (eighteen years ago)

Bah! Missed this one. But only 2 votes for Visions of China????

OMG WTF ETC.
