Who started this fucking indie/AOR "singing in a strained higher pitch" chorus bullshit? Franz Ferdinand? Someone drop the banhammer on this genre asap.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 10:12 (eighteen years ago)

Suggested video treatments for upcoming Hoosiers singles:

The Hoosiers have a fun night in, but aliens land
The Hoosiers AS The A-Team
The Hoosiers in a wacky concentration camp

BIG HOOSIERS aka the shitindieband

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 10:15 (eighteen years ago)

Can't we go back to the days when real bands like The Futureheads and The Hives were in the top 10?

This board is mean. I think The Hoosiers are a pretty good band. Mr A sounds like Mr Blue Sky by ELO!

Can't we go back to the chart glory days of "Cash Machine" and "Ruby"?

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

And now I've got that "Goodbye Mr A" line going round and round in my head. Thanks.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

Mr A sounds like Mr Blue Sky by ELO!

I think I'll just carry on listening to Mr Blue Sky

blueski, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

Never heard them, never heard of them. With a name like that I'd have assumed they were a jam band a la phish.

Pashmina, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:00 (eighteen years ago)

They're a bit like The Wombats.

Eyeball Kicks, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

The Hoosiers aka The Steendrivers

blueski, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

they only exist so people will say "well I guess The Feeling weren't that bad after all!" and buy a couple of copies of The Feeling's album, right?

Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:10 (eighteen years ago)

interesting fact: no one has ever heard of this band

J0hn D., Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

they built up no fanbase using internet community sites like myspace

Mountain Goats to adopt more jovial cheeky Supertramp-via-Cast sound on next album.

somebody sent Dom the advance way too early, heads will roll

J0hn D., Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

You could do a video where you dressed up like 1950s schoolboys, kind of a St Trinians theme, it'd be hilarious.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

special thanks to Dom Passantino for the original concept for this important music video

J0hn D., Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

Ok, I haven't heard this band but as a former resident of Indiana I'm already predisposed to hating their punk asses.

da croupier, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

upcoming singles: "Pay To Play," "In Loving Memory Of Che," "Bring Back The Autos De Fe" and a cover of Paula Abdul's "The Promise Of A New Day."

da croupier, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

I managed 56 seconds of that "mr A" song:

They sound just like that scouting for girls band - awful.

It is a Ripoff of "Mr Blue Sky" by ELO

It sucks

They Suck

The real Mr A ((c)Steve Ditko) would have kicked their asses then givenm them a lecture about objectivism.

I hate piss weak bands like this, they're the worst.

Pashmina, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

^^^we've gone over this before, The Wombats are pretty great for a British indie band in 2007

The second one is a knockoff of a Sparks tune? Can't remember which one tho.

Great band. Like The Feeling. Hopefully, The Hoosiers and The Feeling represent the future of all mainstream pop music. The mid 70s pomp pop era was a great era and should also be the future.

Coming from an ex concert pianist and current world touring drum and bass dj, i am quite widely spread in musical taste, these guys (the hoosiers) have a talent for music production, are excellent practical musicians, real songwriters, and best of all nice people, which is hard 2 find in this industry. maybe i sense bitterness in those with no talents but to claim they have the same name as the character of sex and the city, i dont know...

I'll just brace myself for your reply while polishing my gold records

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 December 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

If the guy is a world touring D&B dj (rofflez @ that being some arbiter of musical superiority) how come a google search on his name yields NOTHING.

roffle roffle, Monday, 17 December 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, I dunno, I can stand the Hoosiers, they have some sort of roughage in their gruel, as opposed to the Feeling, who are about as water as it gets.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 17 December 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

The dude came across remarkably well on Buzzcocks last week.

The Hoosiers add weight to my theory that the Magnolia soundtrack is the most influential record of the last decade.

Scik Mouthy, Monday, 17 December 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

that dude who hardly spoke? Seems a nice bloke I guess.

No explanation from Dom re comment above, so I'll assume someone in the Feeling is gay, of which I didn't know and do not care.

what now?

'magnolia' ost is mostly jon brion doing incongruously 'normal' orchestral soundtrack thing, with occasional aimee mann songs.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

xpost: The Feeling's super-hot lead singer Dan Gillespie-Sells is indeed openly gay; he came out to Attitude magazine about 18 months ago.

And, yeah, I didn't get that Maginilia OST reference either. How does Aimee Mann connect to The Hoosiers?

mike t-diva, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

(^^^^ Magnolia. Sheesh.)

mike t-diva, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

These guys are getting lots of publicity in the UK. The voice-over guy on their advertisement comes on at the end in an English accent and says "The HOOZ-ee-ers! Out now!"

Tracer Hand, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

SUPERTRAMP

Scik Mouthy, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

They were on T-Mobile Unsigned at the weekend. Does that show not have a thread?

Raw Patrick, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

No because it was would just be "FUCK OFF CUNTS" written 4,000 times

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

Are the ones who were like an even more hackneyed version of Frank (or whatever that shitty Xenomania guitar act were called) still on?

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

Finalists = Revenue (much arrogance, no tunes) and Envy and Other Sins (The Feeling pretty much).

Raw Patrick, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

Why were the Hoosiers were on t-mobile unsigned? I presume they are actually, er, not unsigned?

Pashmina, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

The unsigned acts get "advice" from top indie names. So a ragtag group of bearded fucks get advice from Roisin Murphy, and four chicks who look like the cast of No Angels get advice from him from Embrace.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:34 (eighteen years ago)

It sounds like the worst thing imaginable. Maybe they should get the lex onto the advisory panel? That would be good for a laff.

Pashmina, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

In this case it was coz the remaining bands were filmed supporting 'em. This has also happened with Kate Nash and New Young Pony Club on the show.

Raw Patrick, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

Being told to consider getting singing lessons by Danny MacNamara must hurt.

Bocken Social Scene, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

I saw a single by The Mentalists (the four chicks who look like the cast of No Angels) in Rough Trade! Looked predictably awful.

Raw Patrick, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:40 (eighteen years ago)

"endter our unsigned band comp, if you win you can suppoert....the hoosiers" I've got nothing. WTF. Rock is dead (pt#32975)

Didn't the bands supporting Kate Nash "hilariously" write "show us your tits love" on her dressing room wall?

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:42 (eighteen years ago)

I thought you did that?

Raw Patrick, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:43 (eighteen years ago)

Pretty sure I could pull Kate Nash without needing to resort to such crudities.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 17 December 2007 11:44 (eighteen years ago)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 17 December 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

Geir do you like Mika?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 17 December 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)

Of course he likes Mika! Silly.

Mark G, Monday, 17 December 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)

No, I don't like Mika too much. Mika is too disco, too MOR and doesn't have the 70s prog elements and harmony singing that Hoosiers do. While Hoosiers and The Feeling are heavily influenced by the likes of ELO, 10cc, Supertramp and Klaatu, Mika and Scissor Sister have more in common with 70s Bee Gees. In a way, The Feeling and The Hoosiers are more European, while Mika and Scissor Sisters are more American. And good music should be as completely dominated by European elements as possible.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 17 December 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'd rather have a singles hitlist dominated by Mika and Scissor Sisters copycats rather than a singles hitlist consisting of R&B and rap though.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 17 December 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

if anyone is to blame it is Freheit with their Keeping The Dream Alive, they started the ELO rip -offs, every couple of years a new ELO rip-off surfaces and each one is worse than the one previously.

Grandpont Genie, Monday, 17 December 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

Freiheit were great too. All "ELO-ripoffs" are great. They represent the way good pop music should sound.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 17 December 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)

The point with that hoosiers thing is surely not so much that the band sound like ELO, more that the tune had a straight lift from, actually I forget, was it "Mr Blue Sky"? Pretty tacky, notwithstanding the crappiness of the band.

Pashmina, Monday, 17 December 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

You're going to love Palladium, Geir.
