a) It prolly won't get enough love here, and

b) It's a fantastic optimism/wooziness tinged with understated melancholy joint that works well in so many moods, and

c) The video.

"love at first sight" pretty easy

"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" - it's a great single even before the lyrics start. "Confide In Me" and "Spinning Around" would be my second and third choices. All the SAW stuff I'd burn on a bonfire, and there are a couple of other duds like the Robbie Williams thing.

I've only heard bits of the new one -- the whoo bits -- and it sounds like the best one yet but might get boring over & over. She has done so much that is mediocre -- even more than Madonna -- but snoball is probably correct.

And, yes, "Where The Wild Roses Grow" will probably win. It's so different from the rest, and appeals to a lot of people who dislike everything else she has done.

I voted for 'German Bold Italic', as I had much love for it (and pretty much anything Towa) back in the day. Looking at the youtube, I suppose it has dated a little bit, but not too badly at all, really. I don't regret my vote.

'Roses' was a Cave single, the first off 'Murder Ballads'. Kylie was only a guest vocalist; one of many on the album.

"Shocked" for me, easily. Actually, "I Believe in You" is a close second, with "What Do I Have to Do?", "Come Into My World" and "Breathe" following behind. ("Breathe" >>>> "Confide in Me").

What about "It's No Secret?" I remember hearing that on "Casey's Top 40" in early '89.

I am stunned by the large amount of people going for SAW material here. Must be a matter of that pathetic anti-rockist contrarism.

By then, Kylie was just a brainless marionette, doing whatever Stock/Aitken/Waterman told her to. She just borrowed them her voice - and her looks - and performed all those brainless throwaway teenybopper anthems without much artistic value.

Today, Kylie has a considerably amount of artistic control, writing much of her material herself, and she has released a couple of excellent electro tinged albums. The Kylie of today is just so much better than the old Kylie of the late 80s/early 90s!

I never liked "Spinning Around" at all, it seemed to me some kind of awful nadir of slick early 00s disco-pop (was it released before or after Modjo's "Lady" I wonder? Weird how she came back with "Love @ First Sight" and made instead the apotheosis of slick early 00s disco-pop, albeit in 2001).

HOWEVER, the "Spinning Around" live mash-up with the groove from CeCe Peniston's "Finally" is one of the most amazing things she's ever done.

iirc 'spinning around' came out the start of summer 2000, 'lady' at the end.

That first oughties album was a bit too disco, but the next two were excellent. Including the singles, although "Love At First Sight" is a bit too much of the same disco taste.

I really don't like "Lady" - think it's dead boring tbh - but love love love "Spinning Around". In my head that song is all chorus, just that ridiculously joyous loop going round and round and round into theoretical infinity.

I dunno, it came out at about the same time I came out, perhaps I was dealing with unacknowledged internalised homophobia at the time?!?

But then why do I love "Your Disco Needs You"?

If only 'Butterfly' and 'Light Years' and half of Light Years were singles.

Love at First Sight is her masterpiece. Better the Devil You Know is the only pre-2000 Kylie song I really love.

Interesting to consider the Kylie singles released since this poll was conducted - from a distance it's almost as if "I Believe In You" was kind of a final landing point and since then she's been spinning (around) in place.

But then you get close up to them and "The One" is so brilliant, so monumental - especially in the Freemasons Remix guise - echoes of "He's On The Phone" in its becalmed yet ecstatic splendour.

And "Get Out Of My Way" is an irresistible jam.

I also have a soft spot for "Wow".

X and Aphrodite are both outstanding albums. Body Language isn't quite their level but still very good. Kiss Me Once is good in parts but not the Kylie album I ever turn to.

Kylie is an artist who I have barely dug into beyond the singles - is there more there? Fever has some excellent album tracks but that's all I know. Would she be a good artist for a listening thread, or are y'all already too familiar?

she's been recording excellent full lengths for a while now, so, yeah, go for it

from Impossible Princess on, all of her albums have been at least worth a listen or classics. like i said, not super keen on the last one but looking forward to the new one. the live stuff i've heard on Spotify has been surprisingly good too; the enthusiasm of the audiences is pretty great.

Lots of excellent Kylie opinions here. My top three Kylie songs are currently, Chocolate, I Believe In You and The One. It's ridiculous that The One was wasn't the lead from X. I like 2 Hearts fine, but the other three singles were so much stronger and seemed like easier hits.
