What's the best "Tonight"?

Apparently the most used songtitle out there. I am using everyhit.com for reference, and adding a few others that I know of. So this isn't every "Tonight", but as many as I was able to think of.

And here's voting for The Raspberries.

Iggy Pop wrote (and performed) the "Tonight" that Bowie covers with Tina Turner on Tonight.

Eazy, Friday, 19 October 2007 08:05 (eighteen years ago)

It's OK, but I am listing the performers, not the writers here :)

TONIGHT
(Roy Wood)

The Move

Also recorded by: The New Seekers

That's the road
it's over there
and leading down to nowhere.
This is the age when you're allowed
to have your own care
if you will have some pride to plan
your life ahead instead of waiting
'til you're old in your bed.

I'll be over tonight
if you say you might
I'll be over tonight
indeed to put you right.

well I know what you wrote
on your overcoat
but don't want to take it too far
oh I think you won't
but I know that you don't
you always say that you are

I'm so used to waiting that's entirely
your affair child don't feel restricted
by the weightless views you're given

if you will have some pride to fight
and front ahead
instead of saving
'til your young heart is dead.

I'll be over tonight...

Never let the riches that may ever be within you

so self concerned with all the love
that you have been through

if you will have some pride to plan
your life ahead instead of waiting
'til you're old in your bed.

It's a song about buying health insurance.

Iggy Pop wrote (and performed) the "Tonight" that Bowie covers with Tina Turner on Tonight.

It's a Pop/Bowie composition, to be exact.

snoball, Friday, 19 October 2007 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

If TV On The Radio were an option, I'd vote for them.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 19 October 2007 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

Good list, though.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 19 October 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

Must also protest no Iggy, though.

Remember when we said, girl, please dont go,
And how Id be loving you forever,
Taught you bout hangin tough as long as you got the right stuff,
Didnt we, girls, ooh, didnt we, girls, aah?

Well, I guess, its a brandnew day after all
Every time we hear the curtain call,
See the girls with the curls in the hair,
The buttons and the pins and the loud fanfares.
Tonight, tonight.

Remember when we traveled round the world,
There were a lot of people and girls,
Fan mail from everywhere showed us how you care,
Didnt it, girls, ooh, didnt it, girls, aah?

Well, I guess...

(spoken:) sounds good, hey fellas, lets do it, here we go.
La-la-la-la-la-la tonight, la-la-la-la-la-la tonight.
Tonight, tonight (repeat & fade)

da croupier, Saturday, 20 October 2007 07:01 (eighteen years ago)

There were a lot of people

and girls

da croupier, Saturday, 20 October 2007 07:02 (eighteen years ago)

Everything will be all right tonight
Everything will be all right tonight
No one moves

No one walks
Tonight

MC5 seconded!

Myonga Vön Bontee, Saturday, 20 October 2007 07:38 (eighteen years ago)

"Tonight" by New Kids is the best song they ever did, but there are considerably better "Tonight"s anyway.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 20 October 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 25 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

MC5 thirdededed.

Sara Sara Sara, Thursday, 25 October 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

OMFG where is the love for Patrik Fitzgerald?

Dr. Joseph A. Ofalt, Friday, 26 October 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

You forgot Richard Hawley's Tonight, from Cole's Corner. It's better than every "Tonight" song listed in the poll.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 26 October 2007 02:32 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for Shirley Bassey, assuming that's a version of the song from West Side Story.

jaymc, Friday, 26 October 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

DJ QUIK!!!

max, Friday, 26 October 2007 02:59 (eighteen years ago)

max, Friday, 26 October 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)

Damn! Should have included Ken Laszlo (but it was obviously not on everyhit.com)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 26 October 2007 08:29 (eighteen years ago)

It's obviously the most used songtitle for rather unremarkable songs.

I vote for Leonard Bernstein.

PhilK, Friday, 26 October 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

"You look too young to know about romance" is such a smooth pick-up line. I'm going with the Raspberries.

Fitzcarraldo, Friday, 26 October 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

1 vote for Sibylle Baier

Ben Boyerrr, Friday, 26 October 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 26 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm. Now that Beatles-pastiche was the best NKOTB track ever, but still, depressing to see that über-boyband winning a poll.....

Geir Hongro, Friday, 26 October 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

The correct answer was Nancy Wilson (especially as sampled by The Avalanches), but I missed this poll completely.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 26 October 2007 23:41 (eighteen years ago)

YEAH!!!

JUSTICCCE

roxymuzak, Saturday, 27 October 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

Righteous!

JN$OT, Saturday, 27 October 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

The chorus of "Tonight" by New Kids On The Block is really fucking annoying.

All of the Raspberries "Tonight" is way awesome.

billstevejim, Sunday, 28 October 2007 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

no mc5 no credibility maaaaan
