I say classic. Wisconsin is a pretty great album. Always had a soft spot for "The Savior." How does it hold up now, I wonder?

I'll admit it. I bought their album back in college solely on the strength of the band's name.

Classic, though. Even the between song radio bits are classic!

I grew up in Lansing and used to see their flyers on telephone poles around town - this sounded like a very scary band!

Classic! Some of Doc Corbin Dart's solo album is good too. Favourite is Pig in a Blanket.

"Laws Against Laughing" and "When The Top Comes Off" from Wisconsin are terrific, dig the spoken word bit at the end 'this isn't disney land... and this isn't punk land...' Their first album is squirmy and screamy.

Never heard that album, though they said they named it partly because they loved and played Madison so much. They were I think my second punk show in '84. I saw them twice, bought and loved the self-titled album, still play it sometimes. Steve Shelley was back a couple years later with Sonic Youth on the Sister tour, but I didn't make the connection until later.

this band is incredible i can't believe i never got into them before
just downloaded wisconsin
i read a bunch of stuff on Doc Dart the lead singer (now changed is name to "26")...he is a real deal rock weirdo cult figure it seems...interviews are incredible
i didn't even know steve shelley was in this band...
overall this is kinda blowing my mind...sort of weird mid ground between hardcore, REM/feelies, and like sorta cloudy semi melodic semi dissonant Mission of Burma/Sonic youth style guitar...
plus his vox are just awesome...super nasal whine...like up there with howard devoto and jello biafra in terms of taking it there in aggro whine

i guess doc dart has a cult solo album called "patricia" named after a therapist that he fell in love with? really intriguied
this band seems like a mystery
the awesome circular two handed tapping patterns on "concession stand" are like a secret precursor to math rock

Ha, one of my first experiments with sampling = chopping up and repeating that line with two tape recorders. Garbage bag garbage bag Gar Gar Gar garbage bag.

the title track to "wisconsin" has echoes of meat puppets in the music

one of my favourite Doc Dart lines is "No one can logically argue against the things that I believe" in Pig In A Blanket. one of the best bands

one of my favorite Doc Dart lines is "I am going to empty this ashtray ... in about half an hour" ... was tempted at various points to start a thread for "recommend me bands like Crucifucks"

Born Against's Sam McPheters has a great chapter devoted to the Crucifucks and, more specifically Doc Dart (now known as 26, I shit you not) in "Mutations: The Many Strange Faces of Hardcore Punk,"

oh cool I should read that book
there was a Vice article about Doc Dart a long time ago, seemed like he'd turned full on hermit/conspiracy theorist, interesting guy to say the leat
- to me - Wisconsin is one of the greatest American punk records

decades ago, I saw Doc Dart at Gilman and he said something like "Weird? You want weird? I'll show you weird..." when took a razor blade and starting cutting his forearmsIt was especially odd because he was playing an acoustic guitar
― Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 22 October 2024 22:50 (one year ago)
found this on YouTube - a rip of his 2006 CD "The Messiah" recorded after he changed his name to 26, really cool/eccentric stuff
