Do you recall them?
They have reunited. They are a very big deal in Knoxville, obviously, and are cheered here (and, of course, jeered as well). Both of their shows here are sold out.
I see them tonight.

I liked some riffs on that Valley of the Dying Stars album, but god that solo post-jesus album was a zzz

Yeah, not too relevant though, bro!

haha when I lived in Dallas every Toadies show/reunion got huge press. "DO YOU WANNA DIEEEEE?"

They put on amazing shows the couple of times I saw them in small clubs, mostly on the Dying Stars album. Never listened to 'em past that.
Man, they were a band I got into through Napster.

saw them open for big star like 12 years ago (?) when they were getting a bit of airplay on "alternative" stations of the day. had an ep of theirs that was ok, but nothing exceptional

Their "thing", I think, has always been their live show. They brought it last night, but part of me thought they could stand up there playing scales and the crowd would go wild anyway.
I was a designated driver. :(
I'm under the impression that they have a bit of a cult following elsewhere, as well, because they are touring around a bit and have lots of sold out shows. + They are making $10,000 per show, wau.

mostly on the Dying Stars album
That's an interesting starting place! Where did you see them (i.e. what city)?
― roxymuzak, Saturday, 20 October 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)
I enjoyed their live show when I caught it at the Exit/In in Nashville in '99. Favorite songs include "The Staggering Genius," "Keep It Close To Me" and "Do The Vampire."

I really need to download "Destination Ursa Major"
― da croupier, Saturday, 20 October 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)
They closed with that last night.

just realised that I have 4 of their cds not ripped into my digital archive :
regretfully yours, in the valley of dying stars, head trip in every way, and, last call for vitriol.
quite excited to hear them again.

Head Trip in Every Key is widely considered the masterpiece but I think In The Valley of Dying Stars edges it out. Regretfully Yours is also worthy. Great live band. Nice dudes, too.

after a week of excess noise and beats, this bands catalogue is now totally hitting the spot.

I love 'em! I got into 'em through the "Fabulous 8-track Sounds" EP and bought all their early Darla Records 7"s. I think all of the first 4 albums are great ... Head Trip is my least favorite. Valley is probably my favorite.
Terrific band. You all are aware they're doing something called The Lees of Memory now, yes? More shoegazey than power-poppy. More here: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/an-interview-w-75/

dont have the "8-track" ep, and no, i did not know of their current whereabouts - so ta for the tip !
― mark e, Saturday, 4 June 2016 11:53 (ten years ago)
"sold you an alibi" is my favorite cut off Head Trip. I was stoked at the time that they were 'expanding' their sound, but the songs just weren't there for the most part.

track 1 on the "Fabulous" EP hooked me immediately ... they've released plenty of better songs since, but this is still one of my faves:
