I just saw Unsane last night in Glasgow and thought they were incredible. I wasn't at all familiar with them before going, so it was an unexpectedly fantastic night. Great sludgy, gritty riffs and the drumming in particular was tight as anything. I definitely need to give their albums a listen - what would be good starting points for a late convert?

well, there's a best-of on relapse. but other than that you can't go wrong with singles or total destruction or scattered, smothered and covered.

even the album that came out this year on Ipecac was pretty good. but gott punch has a good buying order there. the two albums they did for relapse were okay too, but not all that memorable. or not as memorable as the earlier matador/amrep stuff.

That's one band I never got around to checking out, even though I was part of the target audience when 'Scrape' was big. They're on my list now.

Nasty Jack Natz, ex-Undead/Virus/BlackSnakes/Cop$hootCop/Lubricated Goat, is on bass detail these days, i gather.

It was in Nice N Sleazy, with Hey Enemy (who were fantastic again) and Black Sun (who I don't get on with, but lots of other folk seem to like) in support.
Looks to be someone called Dave Curran according to teh interwebs...

He had a few little drum solos between the songs, which were great and very amusingly done. Mostly it was his wonderful 'rock' facial expressions and the way he was beating the shit out of his kit that convinced me.

i've only got the vandal-x single but the riff is one of the most brutal things i've heard
