picked this one up in the Half-off bin recently... certainly more interesting than the latest 2 Modest Mouse albums, thoughts? I'm leaning towards Classic

I don't know what you mean by "interesting," but I don't like it as much as "good news..."

My favorite songs are "Barnacles," "Cat Faces," and "Smoke Like Ribbons"

I prfer new Modest Mouse as well, but Things I Don't Remember is a fantastic space out.

The one where he sings "Old folks homes smell just like my own" is really sad and pretty.

I think I mentioned it on another Ugly Casanova or MM thread, but I saw them play live before the album came out and I seem to remember the Holopaw guy singing lead on almost all the songs, and Isaac Brock would barely sing, if at all. It was a totally different sound that way.

"Things I Don't Remember" == GIANT GIANT GIANT classic. The rest is pretty good background music with a few solid standouts (always liked the one about parasites). Very nice little side project, although I kind of wish he'd saved the material for MM. Not that I have any major beef with the last two LPs, but both had some iffy filler-esque bits.

six years pass...

Still think this holds up pretty well - at this point I'm muuuuuch more likely to pull this out than either of the last two MM full-lengths. Good texture, strong refrains, nice range of moods while being pretty sonically and thematically consistent. "Smoke Like Ribbons" gets in my head all the time: "Lordy lordy loved him / stark don't give a flaaaaaaaaaaaaaat fuck."
