POO: Imaginary MOR/Rap Collabos
― gr8080, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)
Didn't this track come out years ago?
― Jordan, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

It is new to me. I am transfixed.
― Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)
still awesome though.
Awesome? It doesn't seem like BT is doing much interesting with Collins' sample. They kind of make it the whole song by just lifting the riff without making any changes or updating the sound of the song or adding other elements to it (P. Daddy did something similarly uninteresting with a Sting song a few years ago, which they performed on the MTV Video Awards). But I'm not a huge rap fan, so maybe I'm missing something.

this comment on youtube is OTM: "this song never got the air play it deserved..."
― LaMonte, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)
I like this song. Phil looks like Bob Hoskins in The Long Good Friday.
― Eazy, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)
Commented upon in another thread- remember 'cos it's filmed here in Geneva & I can see my place in it.
― blunt, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)
(& as I prepare to move, getting nostalgic already thinking of how this will sound when I'm on the other side of the world)
― blunt, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)
This is a perfect day for watching Bone Thugz videos -- midwest, fall, cold, dark gray...
Is that London in the video?
― Eazy, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

I really could have sworn there was another thread about this song. This is damn near the best thing either act's ever done.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, london doesn't really have epiceries.
― admrl, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 00:16 (eighteen years ago)

No.

There is no way that anything by Bone Thugz could possibly be even close to the greatness of "Supper's Ready".

Geir I'm surprised that you don't know this: Bizzy Bone wrote most of "Supper's Ready" and all of "The Musical Box," this is a matter of historical record - Hackett & Gabriel up on some Rob & Fab shit with all that early stuff

Up on a hill, as the day dissolves With my pencil turning moments into line High above in the violet sky A silent silver plane - it draws a golden chain
One by one, all the stars appear As the great winds of the planet spiral in Spinning away, like the night sky at Arles In the million insect storm, the constellations form
On a hill, under a raven sky I have no idea exactly what I've drawn Some kind of change, some kind of spinning away With every single line moving further out in time
And now as the pale moon rides (in the stars) Her form in my pale blue lines (in the stars)
And there, as the world rolls round (in the stars) I draw, but the lines move round (in the stars)
There, as the great wheels blaze (in the stars) I draw, but my drawing fades (in the stars)
And now, as the old sun dies (in the stars) I draw, and the four winds sigh (in the stars)

I'm actually surprised Geir isn't a Bone fan.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)
I missed that it was Geneva because I watched the beginning and end of the video and listened to all the rest, and then for some reason did the same thing two more times.
I still fondly remember the summer of whatever when "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" was on The Box over and over again.

i've never heard this song before
― jaxon, Sunday, 24 April 2011 04:54 (fifteen years ago)
it's awesome when you bring up this song with someone who doesn't know about it and they think you're totally making it up but you're like no seriously phil collins and bone thugs did a track together and it's awesome and there's a music video and everything! and they still don't believe it's true and then you prove it to them and you can see in that one little moment that their view of the world just got slightly better.
― gr8080, Sunday, 24 April 2011 05:29 (fifteen years ago)
Watching it tonight, I noticed for the first time the layer added by Phil Collins lip-synching his own voice from 20 years ago. Existential!
