is there a thread on this already and I'm just not seein it? Is his career over or what?

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

My prediction: this will impede the career of T.I.

Davey D, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

I'm guessing "no one thinks there's enough here to talk about since he's rather unambiguously boned".

HI DERE, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

I was just curious how many years he's facing

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

there was minimal chatter on rolling snap.

J0rdan S., Monday, 22 October 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

a fuckload of years.

J0rdan S., Monday, 22 October 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

yeah the fucked thing is that all they have to prove is that he had guns and that he's a felon, which are both kind of undeniable at this pt. all he can do is get lawyers to beg for leniency

deej, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

also why he felt the need to purchase three machine guns with silencers, was he gonna take out Li'l Wayne or something

x-post

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

im guessing he was uncomfortable coming from where he was from and sitting on a giant pile of money. and as it turns out his bodyguards may not have been exactly trustworthy

its fucked

deej, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

Masked robbers invaded NBA star Antoine Walker's home in the 400 block of East Huron Street and stole his Mercedes Benz, along with cash and jewelry, about 6:30 p.m. on July 9. Police recovered the Mercedes near Potomac and Karlov avenues the following morning.

A few week after Walker was robbed, former Chicago Bulls player Eddy Curry, members of his family and an employee were restrained with duct tape and held at gunpoint by three masked offenders during a robbery of his Burr Ridge home on July 28.

they're pleading not guilty

deej, Monday, 22 October 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

but the silencer thing would seem to indicate the guns were not intended for protection (ie, if yr defending yrself, whether or not yr making noise is not an issue - silencers are used to specifically kill people in secret)

The ironic thing about the silencers is that they don't really do what people think (ie Shakey's "kill folks quietly" up there). A 'silenced' pistol will still damage your hearing without ear protection - generally in the 100-120db range.

The machine guns thing could fuck him worse than the felon-with-a-gun thing. The feds take them very seriously - like 10 years per seriously.

milo z, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

buh? GA gun law doesn't recognize that silencers are pretty much solely for killing people? I don't understand... also aren't these federal charges, what do state gun laws have to do with it

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

we can ban stupid though can't we?

J0rdan S., Monday, 22 October 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

(um x-post. and yes I'm familiar with guns and how silencers function)

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

machine gun in this case refers to what exactly?

jhøshea, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

(note I didn't say "quietly" I said "kill people in secret". if silencers have some other use, please elaborate)

x-post

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

motive doesnt enter into his conviction at all
possession is the issue and its not hard to prove

jhøshea, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

GA gun law doesn't recognize that silencers are pretty much solely for killing people?

this r dum

Silencers and machine guns are a federal and a state issue. Both (along with the proverbial 'sawed-off shotgun') are governed by the National Firearms Act and a host of other things. To purchase any of them legally, you need to a) get approval from the chief of po-lice or sheriff or b) form a corporation/trust, pay the ATF $200 for a tax stamp, get the ATF to sign off on your paperwork, then buy your AK.

Some states completely ban select-fire guns and silencers, period, most do not. As long as you meet the federal guidelines, they don't really care.

milo z, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

sorry I've shot a lot of guns but I am not an NRA member, so arcane gun laws are kinda um arcane to me

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

so does anyone know what kind of guns they were

jhøshea, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

okay, Shakey, 'splain: if silencers don't allow you to 'kill people quietly' - then how do they allow you to 'kill people in secret'?

As to their use - there really isn't a great demand for them. My understanding is that some police and military use them precisely because it does make it easier to communicate when your ears aren't ringing as much. That whole James Bond-two-to-the-head thing is a myth.

jhøshea, Monday, 22 October 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know enough about T.I. to say this authoritatively so I'm just offering an idea based on the weird & exotic selection of gear he had: If you didn't used to have money and then suddenly you notice that you have enough to buy shit on impulse, then whatever you were into but couldn't afford, I guarantee you're gonna start buying loads of that. If you used to gaze longingly at obscure records you couldn't afford, you will soon be buying them & filing them without even listening to them, just because you can. My guess is that the man always wanted to have a bunch of cool-ass guns. 'Cause I guarantee you, a well-trained security guard can protect T.I. a fuck of a lot better than he can protect himself, so "self-protection" is hardly even the issue, or, if it is, it's one that hasn't been thought through very well.

xpost and the law (drug conviction? oh no guns) is bullshit, it should be "gun conviction? ok no guns")

J0hn D., Monday, 22 October 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

j0hn think he got picked up a few times for violating probation by having guns.

J0rdan S., Monday, 22 October 2007 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

T.I. was on probation stemming from a 1998 conviction for violating a state controlled substances act and for giving false information. After being released on probation, he earned a litany of probation violations in several counties around Georgia for offenses ranging from possession of a firearm to possession of marijuana.[22]

Dan, you haven't locked horns with me in ages. I kind of miss it, even when I'm trying to behave.

T.I. was a felon for guns and drugs already, and then he goes out and buys more guns in an obviously illegal manner. When he is arrested, he has a loaded gun in the car. T.I. is not an unknown, petty street criminal. He's a celebrity. If he's not stupid for this kind of behavior, then he's unbelievably arrogant.

And I like the guy. Or, his music anyway.

I would say legal trouble fucked over DMX but it's probably more accurate to say being a crazy crackhead fucked over DMX.

wau I was kind of unaware of the evil lolz tied up in DMX's life:

In 2003, DMX claimed he would stop rapping to pursue preaching. Many criticized his beliefs since much of his albums use vulgarity, violence and racial slurs. According to many sources such as MTV, he semi-retired to study the Bible more, in an effort to give messages behind the pulpit, but has since decided to return to rap after being encouraged by Mase to wait for God's calling to do so.
