Now that "8 Diagrams" has been pushed back to accomodate it, why not start the thread?
On first listen I am not so jazzed about the single ("Celebration") but he hasn't let us down yet...so here's hoping the rest holds up.
― Simon H., Tuesday, 23 October 2007 02:28 (eighteen years ago)
i like 'celebration' more than 90% of fishscale
― deej, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 03:03 (eighteen years ago)
I'm looking forward to this...
Its pretty much guaranteed to be good, except the single like you said is kind of weak.
For anyone that hasn't heard it:

I like that cover! But after the Fishscale switcharoo, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)
single's pretty good, but the rare earth chorus is kinda easy. (i was afraid it would be kool & the gang, so i guess it's not as easy as it coulda been.)

after one listen i like this a lot better than fishscale.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 28 November 2007 07:58 (eighteen years ago)
Fishscale is good but this one is more "give the people what the people want" steez.
Fish is more literary(i guess?), and it takes longer to get into...
― Colin_C., Wednesday, 28 November 2007 08:00 (eighteen years ago)
yeah this sounds more on the pretty toney tip, but that's totally okay w/ me.

Yeah, 8 Diagrams DID have alot of potential, and thankfully it surpassed it
― Erock Zombie, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)
Holy shit. Best contemporary artist, period? Two listens in, this is as funny, vulgar, and sweet as Fishscale. What a streak.

― Oilyrags, Thursday, 29 November 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)
'Killa Lipstick' is an oddly brilliant bonus track, a bit hammy but good.

― J0rdan S., Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)
So, the end of the album is a sort of "to be continued..." thing, with Ghost talking about how he wants to change his ways and spend more time with his family and take the singer's advice to "slow down".
If you've read any of Ghost's recent interviews he talks about how on his next album (the one after The Big Doe Rehab) he's going to be sort of conscious and talk about social issues (I think he said he might not even be cursing at all but I'm not sure).
Pretty cool.

same as the last one. and the one before that.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)
Hmm, much better than the Fish-era dip in quality. Best since Supreme Clientele, easy. He comes *hard* on a lot of this, and there are some absolutely classic beats: Yolanda's House (also the most in-sync Wu emcees have sounded in a while - they even sound like they're working together!), Walk Around, Supa GFK, Rec-Room Therapy (Raekwon is great on this), Shakey Dogg, Slow Down.
― paulhw, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:32 (eighteen years ago)
Tony Starks meets Iron Man
― Oilyrags, Friday, 7 December 2007 02:36 (eighteen years ago)
I like this a lot, but it blurs a little - other than the Celebrate-sampling song, it's hard to pick out individual tracks. I wish there were a couple more "Tush"/"Run"-type standout tracks.
Beans verse is the most memorable of the album, can't wait to get his album next week.
― milo z, Friday, 7 December 2007 03:38 (eighteen years ago)
After one listen, I'm not sure what to make of this. If anything, it seems a bit too slick.

I know, right? (Actually I downloaded it from Amazon, but the point stands. Legal music wtf.)
― The Reverend, Friday, 7 December 2007 07:56 (eighteen years ago)
nah i bought this too. this is one of my 10 fav albums of the year. the pitchfork review used the exact phrase i had in my mind after i got through this a few times: "comfort zone". album kinda comforts me, too. kind of like a one constant in a hectic life kinda thing. i just feel really... relaxed when i listen to this.
― J0rdan S., Friday, 7 December 2007 08:04 (eighteen years ago)
i have this theory that this album was kind of a release for ghost, assuming it was recorded at the same time as 8 diagrams. i think that explains why a lot of the songs aren't as focused and as strung toghther narratively as fishscale. i imagine something like "supa gfk" happening because he was pissed at rza so he went into the studio, threw this beat on that is basically just a soul song and just started rapping without really thinking.
― J0rdan S., Friday, 7 December 2007 08:07 (eighteen years ago)

(still)
This is the first Ghostface album that has done absolutely NOTHING for me. I mean, Bulletproof Wallets and More Fish weren't great, but at least there was a "Walking Through the Darkness" here, a "Stolen Script" there.
― The Reverend, Saturday, 29 December 2007 08:59 (eighteen years ago)
idk dude i think "supa gfk" or "yolanda's house" or "walk around" or "paisley darts" is up there w/ a lot of his great solo stuff.
