Balance is a collection of 12 songs following the theme of relationships that seems to be squarely aimed at those looking for something a little different to the current pop and rock movements worshipped in the press. It's stuffed with catchy hooks, clean guitar lines and knowing lyrics – something perhaps familiar to those who are fans of singer Sice's previous projects. But whether it will catch on with the cool indie crowd is another matter...

Who's it by

Paperlung were formed in 2005, six years after Sice's most well-known band, the criminally underrated noise-pop purveyors Boo Radleys, went their separate ways. Sice already had plenty of new songs up his sleeve before meeting bassist Simon Gardiner and deciding to form a band. After finding a guitarist and drummer to complete the outfit, Paperlung embarked on a string of gigs and released two singles in 2006. Balance was finished at the start of summer 2007...

God the parser really screws that link up!

Boo Radleys fans may be disappointed with their first listen of Balance. There are no fuzzed-up guitars, chant-along anthems or bizarre lyrics about worms and tigers; instead you might wonder where exactly Sice's rock spirit has gone. But upon subsequent listens, it becomes clear that Sice has well and truly grown up without losing sight of the fact that you just can't beat a good tune.

Oh Brother!

Great. Rock songs about relationships. I hope this is better than it sounds.
