Turns Out "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You)" is about Uganda!

in a "Private Eye" sense?

That last post might not make much sense to our American friends

"Private Eye" does not make sense to this American. I have seen the Fall Out Boy video several times on MTV early in the morning (one of the few times they show videos). I kinda like the song (produced by Babyface I think)and even if you're cynical about the group, they're not in the video that much and are at least focussing attention on the plight of child refugees in war-torn Northern Uganda. Not that it will solve the problems there any more than recent Darfur efforts have done, but hey they are trying. Has Sasha Frere-Jones seen the video?

And yea, the lyrics are not exactly on point with the video's message.

i'm just glad they finally made a video without any talking animals or cutesy references to their other videos.

but then I think "The (After) Life Of The Party" would've been a better choice for the album's token wussy/sensitive single.

I like how they couldn't be bothered to write a new song to bring attention to the plight of Uganda. Like something that could be downloaded for 99 cents and have the proceeds donated to a charity, as opposed to just pumping sales of Infinity On High.

It's the rock equivalent of wearing a breast cancer ribbon to work.

I don't see how writing a song about the issue (which they'd be incapable or writing with the same sensitivity or detail as their songs about, say, MySpace, anyway) would be somehow a way bigger or better gesture than basing a video around it.

or=of

it's way easier to make a video about the plight in uganda that isn't trite or obnoxious than it is to make a song about uganda that isn't trite or obnoxious (which is what a fall out boy song about uganda would probably end up being).

also the video for the new wyclef song is about immigration rather than strippers.

Collect the bad habits that you couldn't bear to keep
Out of the woods, but I love
A tree I used to lay beneath, kiss teeth stained red
From a sour bottle baby girl with eyes the size of baby worlds

We're the new face of failure
Prettier and younger, but not any better off
Bulletproof loneliness
At best, at best

The best way to make it through
With hearts and wrists intact
Is to realize two outta three ain't bad
Ain't bad

And that hey! Could be worse, could be in Uganda.

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

I'd actually prefer to hear "Uganda (Shit, We Thought We Had It Bad)"

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

"Uganda Be Kidding Me"

"I May Be Mean (But I'm No Idi Amin)"

"Da Nile Ain't Just A River In Egypt (It Also Runs Through Uganda)"

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

"Thank You For Crying With Me Africa"
