hard, but the answer is "im amazed"

Zeno, Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:50 (sixteen years ago) link

"Oh My Golly!". I technically could listen to "Bone Machine" more often, and it's the first Pixies song I ever heard properly... but "Oh My Golly!" is exhilaration on tape.

verhexen, Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:53 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, oh my golly is my 2nd choice

Zeno, Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm torn between "Gigantic," probably my favorite song, and "Bone Machine," which makes me insanely happy every time I hear the intro.

milo z, Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:54 (sixteen years ago) link

i think im one of the only ones who hate Gigantic

Zeno, Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:55 (sixteen years ago) link

gigantic... oh my golly!... i voted for Cactus.

jed_, Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I went for "Oh My Golly!" too so I'm happy to see it getting love here but I'm still sure something tediously obvious will win.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:01 (sixteen years ago) link

like wher is my mind?

Zeno, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Does anyone else prefer the single version of Gigantic to the album version? I like the more clipped bass playing.

Looking at the tracklist, I'd forgotten what a good album this is.

verhexen, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:25 (sixteen years ago) link

River Euphrates hands down!

Surmounter, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I voted for "Gigantic". I like this album but if there were a couple more songs with these kinds of pop hooks (or Kim Deal lead vocals) I'd love it.

Euler, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Gigantic easy

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm a Brick Is Red man, myself. I love it's succinct beauty but at the same time always get disappointed that it's not longer. You feel that the song could have really took off, but they leave you wanting more.

Vamos and Bone Machine come in at 2nd and 3rd.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:49 (sixteen years ago) link

^^^
My thoughts entirely. Special mention also to Break My Body.

Nasty, Brutish & Short, Sunday, 18 November 2007 22:56 (sixteen years ago) link

"river euphrates" with "break my body" as close runner up

and i always preferred "where is my mind" to "gigantic" of the 2 big pop songs on here

ciderpress, Sunday, 18 November 2007 23:09 (sixteen years ago) link

crazy tough, so I went with "Tony's Theme" for sentimental reasons

da croupier, Sunday, 18 November 2007 23:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Gigantic, easy. But then, I also think the Breeders' Pod is vastly superior to anything the Pixies did, so what do I know.

Formerly Painful Dentistry, Sunday, 18 November 2007 23:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Bossanova is my favorite Pixies, " " " " "

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 18 November 2007 23:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Bossanova is my favorite Pixies - yes!!

Pillbox, Monday, 19 November 2007 00:30 (sixteen years ago) link

the Breeders' Pod is!! =P

Surmounter, Monday, 19 November 2007 00:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Since it doesn't seem to have been mentioned anywhere else on ILM, this seems as good a place as any to say that Hanne Hukkelberg's cover of Break My Body is damn awesome.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 19 November 2007 00:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Almost went for "Oh My Golly!" but switched to "Vamos" at the last second. "If we get bored....we'll move to cALiForNIAA!" A lot of things could have won this for me really. "Gigantic" obv.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 19 November 2007 00:52 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost

Has anybody else heard this years Rykestrasse 68? It's my favourite album of songs this year. Even the Pixies cover is a good idea.

River Euphrates - it must be.

SeekAltRoute, Monday, 19 November 2007 02:44 (sixteen years ago) link

river euphrates

latebloomer, Monday, 19 November 2007 02:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes, River Euphrates, though I'm much fonder of Trompe Le Monde in general.

dlp9001, Monday, 19 November 2007 03:04 (sixteen years ago) link

The mini-suite of "Tony's Theme", "O My Golly" and "Vamos" is my favourite stretch of songs here; but for individual songs I gotta go with "Gigantic".

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 19 November 2007 03:06 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm voting for the "You fuckin' DIE!!" bit. I really don't care for this album very much.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 19 November 2007 03:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Break My Body.

Gigantic is overrated.

circa1916, Monday, 19 November 2007 04:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh crap I can't decide. Maybe Vamos, maybe Broken Face. The album's such a time capsule for me: it immediately conjures up final year high school and my first boyfriend (whos name was Tony and whos mom was Rosa, which amused us when it came out). Funny thing is I dont get anywhere near as much out of it now as I did then. Just nostalgia.

Trayce, Monday, 19 November 2007 05:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Bone Machine. One of the best opening songs ever.

nate woolls, Monday, 19 November 2007 08:21 (sixteen years ago) link

It was between "Bone Machine" and "Broken Face" for me - went with the later. Pretty much a coin flip.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 19 November 2007 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Break my body, hold my bones.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 19 November 2007 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Perhaps I should have spelled that out fully.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 19 November 2007 16:39 (sixteen years ago) link

River Euphrates is picking up some votes i see :-) nice

Surmounter, Monday, 19 November 2007 16:58 (sixteen years ago) link

i enjoy gigantic a lot but not as much as some of y'alls

Surmounter, Monday, 19 November 2007 17:02 (sixteen years ago) link

"Gigantic" still sends me.

Alex in NYC, Monday, 19 November 2007 17:04 (sixteen years ago) link

i love love love the beginning of whatever it is when kim is doing her bit

"there were rumors... there were rumors

he was into field hockey players..."

cracks me the fuck up every time

Surmounter, Monday, 19 November 2007 17:11 (sixteen years ago) link

that's Tony's Theme.

StanM, Monday, 19 November 2007 17:20 (sixteen years ago) link

actually it looks like it's "I'm Amazed"

Surmounter, Monday, 19 November 2007 17:22 (sixteen years ago) link

kim speaks before Tony's Theme starts too

Surmounter, Monday, 19 November 2007 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh sh* - yeah, you're right. It's I'm Amazed.

StanM, Monday, 19 November 2007 17:24 (sixteen years ago) link

maybe Vamos, maybe Broken Face

yup. going with vamos.

grimly fiendish, Monday, 19 November 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

hmmmm, despite it's inclusion on the Fight Club soundtrack and it's subsequent ubiquitousness (As if it wasn't played to death already), I'm going with "Where is My Mind?"

But really, give me Doolittle or Come on Pilgrim any day of the week.

will, Monday, 19 November 2007 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link

(River Euphrates and Vamos are definitely contenders though)

will, Monday, 19 November 2007 21:00 (sixteen years ago) link

figured "gigantic" would walk this so i went w/ "oh my golly!"

impudent harlot, Monday, 19 November 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link

i listened to only this album for about three weeks in HS. fact!

impudent harlot, Monday, 19 November 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link

i do that with albums a lot

Surmounter, Monday, 19 November 2007 22:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Gigantic = easily the most boring track. Think I'm going to go with I'm Amazed too.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 02:45 (sixteen years ago) link

River Euphrates, natch.

finerfeelings, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 03:48 (sixteen years ago) link

I almost went with Bone Machine, but chose Something Against You.

Mackro Mackro, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 03:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Gigantic is overrated.

by people who like it? statements like this make no sense.

How exactly does that not make sense? I think it's overpraised. It's a good track, but not the best on the album. Don't think I'm being vague.

circa1916, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I voted for Vamos after some thought. I like that it is so much longer than the rest of the album, for one thing, it wigs out a little.

I just remembered this time I was sitting outside the JB HiFi in Prahran (shhh Jim) and these two young guys, maybe 18 or so, came out holding some cds, one guy showing the other what he'd bought. The other guy asked "whos this?" and pointed at his copy of Surfer Rosa. "this is the Pixies man, they were a really influential 80s rock band! Theyre awesome apparently".

Other guy looks at cover of CD contemplatively and then says "hey man, she has her tits out on the cover. AWESOME!".

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Gigantic AND River Euphrates are much better on the single. It has to be BONE MACHINE.

Colonel Poo, Sunday, 25 November 2007 09:44 (sixteen years ago) link

"Where Is My Mind?" 'Cause I often find myself asking that very question...these days.

JN$OT, Sunday, 25 November 2007 14:37 (sixteen years ago) link

gotta go with vamos. it still sounds fresh to me and the noisy guitar bits are still out there.

alex in mainhattan, Sunday, 25 November 2007 15:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I've always been simultaneously a little disappointed but also pretty glad they didn't do something like this for the Come On Pilgrim/Surfer Rosa combined CD cover.
