"Bohemian Rhapsody" is so good it justifies voting for it in two polls in a row (so, I guess that's my 1975 pick too, then ;)

A much better year than 1977 btw. Even if there was a bit too much disco. The strings-rather-than-synths side of disco probably reached its commercial peak in 1976.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

This may need a bit of bumping help now that the 1977 poll is finished.

Chicago - "If You Leave Me Now" There, I said it.

Though, if Manhattans' "Shining Star" were offered, that would take it hands down.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a pompous, overblown, overpraised piece of crap

stephen, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 07:27 (eighteen years ago)

stephen otm. "Dancing Queen" deserves to win and probably will but I voted for "Kiss and Say Goodbye," a longtime favorite.

Matos W.K., Wednesday, 26 December 2007 08:45 (eighteen years ago)

No qualms with Diary Queen winning, but i voted for Convoy

BOHEMIAN RTHAPSODY IS A POMPOS OVERBGLWON POVERPARISE D PIECE OF ARAP

strgn, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

For 1976, this is a really disappointing selection. Lots of soul missing in action, for one thing.

Rockist Scientist, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

My impeccables from this list: Elt 'n Keek, Dancing Queen, Chicago, Real Thing, Bo Rhap, Mamma Mia, 4 Seasons, Candi Staton, Billy Ocean, Somebody To Love, Glass O'Champ, John Miles (for personal reasons), Miracles, Tavares, Dorothy Moore, Killing O'Georgie, Howzat, Fox, Ferry, ELO.

Um, so that's a shortlist of 20, then.

I'm going with Chicago.

"Bohemian Rhapsody"'s supposed pomp and overblownness is exactly what makes it great. The closer to classical music, the better.

And the lack of soul is a good thing, as there was a lot of better music around in 1976.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 31 December 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Had to go
with ELO (duh)

Soren Kierkegaard Existential Light Orchestra, Monday, 31 December 2007 03:00 (eighteen years ago)

Just a few hours to vote now

Chi-Lites, for an excellent song that was never a hit in the U.S. Almost went with "Kiss and Say Goodbye," "Livin' Thing," and Elton & Kiki.

Dimension 5ive, Monday, 31 December 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, seriously slim pickins. I'll have to pick the Chi-Lites too.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a mildly amusing novelty, but no more than that.

Queen - Somebody To Love

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

OK results, but has ILM been invaded by a bunch of 50s rock nostalgia lurkers?

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

xpost

I was into them before I bought albums so no, sadly. But "Under the Moon of Love" should probly win that poll.
