yeah T.I. really must've put that track together carefully, then made sure his verse was last & best. Kanye trying to bite Wayne's already-tired fecal matter punchlines now on this and the Khaled record is really one of the most pathetic, annoying things he's ever done.

the sample is so annoying
is it really, though? there have been so many "omg Jay and Wayne/Kanye and Wayne/Jay and T.I.! oh, this is pretty boring" tracks in the past couple years that I had zero expectations for this. in fact "S.L.U." is probably better than most of those other collabs.

idk it just seems really hastily put together, obv someone made the beat w/ in the last few weeks and no one put any thought into their verses except maybe t.i.. i still think ye sounds pretty cool doing self-important autotune raps but he doesn't drop one hot punchline
id really like to know the thought process behind wayne deciding to use or not use autotune. like, why does he decide to use it here when it brings nothing to the table, but on the new brisco song he drops it and does a really good fast verse

I'm not sure if the beat was necessarily done really recently after "Paper Planes" was a hit, there have been guys like Freeway rapping over that beat for a minute now, plus that whole remix with Bun B way back. Kanye's always had this quavery, nervous quality in his voice sometimes, especially when he performs live, and what the autotune does to that sounds just terrible to my ears, especially on the "Lollipop" remix.
I wasn't really including tracks produced by but not featuring Kanye in my points of comparison, I like stuff like "Comfortable" and "Let The Beat Build" a lot. and "Mr. Carter" could almost be decent as a Jay song but as is it's pretty awful.

he was supposed to host a panel (at this half-assed conference where he was like the 'big star'), but had something more important to do and just gave a quick speech and jetted, and since my panel had gotten cancelled they threw me up there to host instead. so I said something to get a quick laugh like "Terrence just got the call from Rocsi that she wants to reconcile, so he's on the first Chinatown bus back to New York."
― some dude, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link
not that it's gangsta to throw a guy like that under the bus, but i was kinda disappointed he left so quick he didn't even get to hear me say it.

In their most-recent effort to expand the overall fan-base, Duck Down has just signed the Punk Rock Group, "SPECIAL EDUCATION," and has announced its sub-label, "DUCK DOWN ROCKS!!!" The group is comprised of lead vocalist, Johny Rambo, Guitarist/Vocalist, MonstaMan, Bass Player, GUITARDED, the Drummer, Unnamed, and back-up Guitarist, 'Death to Cabs In New Jersey.'
Special Education is slated to release their first album "I RIDE THE SHORT BUS" on February 17th through Arts And Crafts Records/DUCK DOWN ROCKS!!!
Co-owner and CEO of Duck Down Records, Dru Ha, had this to say about Special Education: "When Sean Price first told me about his cousin Johny Rambo's group I was skeptical. I mean everyone has a family member that can rhyme or sing, now do Punk Rock? However, after seeing "Special Education" at the rehearsal studio a few weeks ago I was sold. These guys are AWESOME, they kick ass (pause) and their performance energy was heightened to levels I haven't seen in recent memory. Equally as impressive is the band's start up label, (Arts and Crafts Records) that has really set up some great initial grass roots marketing. Being that Buckshot and I don't have much experience with Punk / Rock bands having Arts and Crafts on board made it a no brainer to sign the band and take a shot. We immediately called our good friend and director Rik Cordero to document a rehearsal session to soon share with the world.
