also big lols:
About 24 hours after “Birthday Girl” was leaked to the web, a ‘homemade’ video turned up on youtube, detailing some little cracker girls 18th birthday party. It’s a delightful affair, signifying that special moment in a young woman’s life when she can finally leave home to have sex with members of The Roots and/or the chubby guy from The Fall Out Boys. Quaint. But the video is just a little too polished and a little too timely. Wheels got to turning and the ever so brilliant webosphere collectively suspectively agreed that the youtube user Fall0utG1rl4ever was likely the work of Def Jam or Cornerstone, the promotions company that is working The Roots record. When not sending me ebayable mixtapes, Cornerstone also funds an in house music publication, Fader Magazine. And guess which magazine’s blog oh so innocently ‘broke’ the faux fan “Birthday Girl” video? Right.

i've been listening to big tymers all night. i wish you guys could hear this one hot 8 brass band tune where the horns lay into that 'this is how we do' hook.
the most i hope to get out of a roots album these days is one or two great tracks, a few clever production ideas, great drumming, and a couple of dice raw verses.

xpost? I'm kinda glad he's coming with something like this first. It shows that he's at least confident about the rest of the album, enough to risk releasing this thing and all the ridicule that may come with it. Better some huge club pop hit than something that would inevitably flop like "Gossip" and cause the album to suffer the same fate as Hell Hath No Fury...i mean that is unless you don't really care about those things in which case it would have been better to just not record "Lollipop" in the first place...
― Preview of the Matrix 12, Thursday, 13 March 2008 22:09 (sixteen years ago) link
that all rests on the assumption that it's going to be a hit...

I dunno, I've gotten the sense from interviews that less than "confident" dude is sorta scattershot about his marketing.

hey Alex in Laureltimore what's the word on shows happening tonight. i saw a flyer on the ground that said the lox @ club one?? must have been old cuz i cant find anything on it online

I dunno, that's news to me! but Styles P. just played a solo show at some little club in Dundalk 3 weeks ago, I almost went but flaked, and I heard later that he was there but there wasn't much of an audience. I dunno why D-Block would come down to Baltimore to play an underpromoted show, but if they did it once they'd probably do it again. I've never been in Club One, though, doesn't that shit have a dress code?

it might be but my point is that 'fireman' and 'go dj' were both pretty successful-- both in the top 40 go dj in the top 20 if im not mistaken-- and they really make no concessions for pop radio and they arent songs you know you're gonna skip on the album (both are highlights even) and i can't imgaine myself listening to 'lollipop' more than twice if carter III ever drops

Big Boi’s Ambitious Ballet
"Big Boi’s been talking about putting on a hip hop ballet with the Atlanta Ballet for about a year, and it’s finally come to fruition. The ballet, called big, will include music by Big Boi, Sleepy Brown, and others mixed with classical music."
