I have just discovered the awesomeness of traditional Armenian music

Looking for the source recording of Neubauten's "Armenia" led me to trad. recordings of Duduk music. I didn't think I could get such a musical epiphany anymore. The drones, the wailing melody lines, the wordless choir-like tones of the instrument, etc. Simply amazing stuff. Suggestions most welcome.

Passion - Peter Gabriel's soundtrack for the Last Temptation of Christ, has some Armenian music/instruments on there (among a lot of other great stuff). I think there are a couple of Armenian artists on his Real World Records label too.

Yes, thanks Stan. I listened to this broadcast this morning and it featured a couple of (great) songs from Gabriel's Passion.

Check out "Passion Sources" as well, it contains a lot of the tracks he was inspired by.

Dead Can Dance seem to have borrowed quite heavily from the religious vocal material and the zither music.
