Any ommissions go to Wikipedia - List of musicians from Sheffield, instead of complaining here.

Though wikipedia having an entry on Milburn and none on Derek Bailey seems a particularly pereverse oversight.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

Paul Carrick, easily.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:31 (eighteen years ago)

Kurt Wagner?! Blimey, that's unexpected.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:33 (eighteen years ago)

What, for "The Living Years" ? xpost

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:34 (eighteen years ago)

carrack

electricsound, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

Where is Tony Christie band? It's never advisable to rely on Wikipedia alone.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

Also, Chakk (and therefore Krush).

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:50 (eighteen years ago)

This is pretty hard, torn between Human League, Cabs and Clock DVA.

And in case anybody was inclined to vote for him, that's Wayne Hussey born in Bristol, spent his teenage years in Liverpool, a large chunk of his life in Leeds and now lives in Brazil.

aldo, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Gavin Bryars?

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

... don't know if he was born in Sheffield (neither was Martin Fry for that matter), but pretty much started there

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 12:55 (eighteen years ago)

A strong lineup with the likes of ABC, Heaven 17, Def Leppard and Pulp. But my vote went to Human League

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

Gavin B is a Ripon boy.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

Also, Chakk (and therefore Krush).

Oy, hands off Krush - they're ours, OURS I TELL YOU!

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

Where is Tony Christie band?

Conisborough between Rotherham and Doncaster, assuming wikipedia's right.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

dan selzer, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

mark e, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

I voted Pulp on the sheer bravado of Jarvis at "that Michael jackson performance".

You know the one....Brit awards.

liamail, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

ILX System, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Didn't expect LFO to win and by quite so handsome a margin.

Billy Dods, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

that is fucked up.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

lol polls r broken

jabba hands, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 11:07 (eighteen years ago)

I feel sad that Moloko didn't get a vote, as "Forever More" is the best pop single EVER EVER (sometimes). But I still went for Pulp, so what do I know.

edwardo, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

Bit surprised to see Heaven 17 getting no votes at all. I thought they had quite a following here.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

Heaven 17 fans probably consider them 2nd to Human League, ABC or the Cabs.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

it's kind of strange to see the hottest sound in sheffield unrepresented in this poll

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

four months pass...

Really enjoyed Jarvis Cocker's Musical Map of Sheffield on Radio 2.

Still on the Listen Again.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 19:39 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a listen.

Damn, I missed this poll. Were LFO really that great? I guess I only remember a couple of things by them. Also people who care about Pulp over Cabs = resounding DUD.

Bimble, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

I came here to say damn you sheffield you people are as bad as mancs with your musical heritage bollocks then I saw LFO won the poll and all was forgiven.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 19 February 2011 19:37 (fifteen years ago)

right, sheffield is great

even the arctic monkeys are probably the least bad major indie band of recent times

eight years pass...

"Sheffield in 1977 had a slight feeling of being the city of the future,” recalls Jarvis Cocker. “I didn’t realise that it was all going to go to sh*t. It was Sheffield before the fall."
