I wsa absolutely delighted when I heard the Shut up and Dance record - so glad that they had taken the dull old Marc Cohn record and done something exciting and interesting with it. Likewise, I was annoyed when Raving I'm Raving got banned.

You can't do Shut Up and Dance at karaoke, for one.

Shut Up And Dance. Because Memphis is the most overrated city in the history of music.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 8 February 2008 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

What about the Scooter version? That version has usually provoked extreme reactions to anyone I've played it for (which is mostly people not into techno).

I'd have gone for "Raving I'm Raving" as performed on TOTP, to an entirely different (and desperately sad) tune because all copies had had to be withdrawn. The encapsulation of everything we will never see again.

February Callendar, Saturday, 9 February 2008 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

yeah that was the album version which has maybe 5 or 6 better tracks on it incidentally

blueski, Saturday, 9 February 2008 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

It's strange. I honestly don't think I've heard that version since. But I know, without even needing to hear it again, that it speaks of a profound sadness, the kind that cannot be articulated in words. I think that's how "we" all felt, in May 1992.
