Beyond just listing new reissues (particularly remastered and expanded/deluxe versions), give your thoughts on them. Many of us haven't heard the likes of Blow Monkeys, Cindytalk, Eyeless In Gaza, etc. the first time around. I haven't gotten any yet, but have my eye on Killing Joke, Nick Lowe and Squeeze - Sweets From A Stranger and Play.

"thriller" is still very good after all this time. i was surprised at how similar the sound is to "off the wall" as it seemed quite a startling change. maybe it was just the hype and inescapable videos. the bonus disk, however, is excreble.

nonightsweats, Friday, 22 February 2008 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

You missed Dennis Wilson's classic disc, which is -- finally -- being reissued this year.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 22 February 2008 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

so , is that La's re-issue the "proper version" that Lee Mavers has been blathering about all these years?

henry s, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

they need to reissue the first couple of thompson twins albums, "a product of..." and "set".

f. hazel, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

Wounded Bird is becoming a real playa on the reissue scene...in April alone they will reissue War Babies by Hall & Oates and Arif Mardin's solo LP Journey...

henry s, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

have to admit, I'm kinda interested in the Whiskeytown Strangers Almanac reissue...

henry s, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

Henry S., I've been listening to that some this week and it's much better than I remember.

Speaking of the Replacements, I'm looking forward to Rhino's reissues of those early albums, which I'm sad/embarrassed to admit I'm not familiar with.

deusner, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

^^^too right...I held off on the Let It Be reissue a few years back because it had no bonus material...and don't we really expect bonus material with these reissues?...I mean, the Back In Denim reissue didn't, but that's a rare exception...also, The Feelies first LP soon gets the treatment...

The Lines-Memory Span

May 2008 on Acute Records

dan selzer, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

Oh nice. Does it replicate that CDR that's around?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

Huh?

dan selzer, Friday, 22 February 2008 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

I have a CDR of their stuff from someone a few years back -- maybe it was you, actually! I can't remember!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

I hope it was me! A friend of mine made a CD with a similar cover that had about half of what's on here that he probably gave to a few friends, but I don't think it's the type of thing that's been popular enough to get massively traded around and posted everywhere. Not yet, at least.

dan selzer, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

oh, also Domino is reissuing the Liquid Liquid LP, with a host of extra goodies...

henry s, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

The first three U2 albums are getting the deluxe reissue treatment this Spring as well, too. Haven't been able to find out what the bonus material will be.

f. hazel, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

Anybody else enjoying the Hellhammer demos set Demon Entrails? Fuzzy cassette sound 'n' all. For the uninformed, Hellhammer was Tom Fischer (a/k/a Tom G. Warrior)'s first band, pre-Celtic Frost. They ripped off early Venom shamelessly, but Fischer's such a weirdo they were individualistic and unique almost in spite of themselves. The two CDs are available as a stripped-down digipak, or a deluxe book-in-a-box thing with a fold-out poster and lyrics and photos. The music is primitive, but awesome. It's on Century Media.

unperson, Friday, 22 February 2008 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

glad to see this thread! yay for Liquid Liquid! Domino has been doing a bangup job with vinyl lately, if only they included MP3 codes with their records...

only reissue I've seen that I think is from 2008 is an Ariel Pink single-disc recap of a 2002 double CD, really really whacked and unusual as per most of his stuff. dude reminds me of a 21st century Beck/Bowie idea stealer type, focused mostly on 40's swing/crooner music, rare psych records, and lsd.

sleeve, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

LOL I have a Blow Monkeys Singles LP, fuck knows why, I bought it when I was 13 for £1 in a sale. Probably just because it was cheap, it's not like I ever listened to it.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

you know you did listen to it. YOU LOVED IT.

scott seward, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

Nah the only things I loved when I was 13 was S'Express and the Beatmasters. And Bomb The Bass.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

cool. i have a beatmasters album! i think. does their album have betty boo on it? and of course s'express still rule. you had good taste! weird, no punk though? not even at 13?

scott seward, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:39 (eighteen years ago)

i have this one:

http://www.magesy.org/uploads/posts/thumbs/1190145784_beat.jpg

scott seward, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

the triffids singles box on domino is one of the best reissues i have ever bought - totally impressive, and the singles look great. it's rare (for me) to find a vinyl reissue that completely negates the desire to own the originals.

electricsound, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:42 (eighteen years ago)

the reissue of this year i am most eagerly awaiting is 'mosaics pieces of stone' by jade stone and luv. mindblowing.

electricsound, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:42 (eighteen years ago)

Yes! Hey DJ had Betty Boo on it. I liked Who's In The House & Rok Da House best though.

I didn't even really discover punk til I was about 17. Punk was well and truly dead in the UK in the early 90s. I listened to a lot of punky indie, just didn't know where it came from at the time. And I liked stuff like the Jam, Stranglers, Cure etc. I think the first punk I heard was something like the Buzzcocks or Members.

xpost that was the 1st tape (and indeed any format of music) I ever bought myself (I'd been given Madness records before that)

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:43 (eighteen years ago)

'rok da house' is the best beatmasters moment but they had a decent handful of great singles.

electricsound, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:46 (eighteen years ago)

I am happy with all this Beatmasters talk.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:46 (eighteen years ago)

I recently found a House Hits '88 LP in a charity shop, I had that on tape back then, has an edit of Rok Da House on it, amongst other stuff. Mostly really edited versions, the Theme From S'Express is like 2 minutes long. It has Can You Party by Royal House on it though, so it's always gonna rule. And I really like the Kid'n'Play & Derek B tracks! Still!

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:51 (eighteen years ago)

Wounded Bird is becoming a real playa on the reissue scene...in April alone they will reissue War Babies by Hall & Oates and Arif Mardin's solo LP Journey...

They've long deserved a big medal for all those Don Mizell-era Elektra reissues (and so many other things). War Babies and Journey = GREAT news.

Favorite reissues of the year thus far:

Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear
Ashford & Simpson - The Warner Bros. Years
The Kenny Rankin albums
George Duke - Faces in Reflection
Charlie Mariano - Helen 12 Trees
Sugar Cane Harris - Sugar Cane's Got the Blues
Funky Nassau: The Compass Point Sessions (had never heard the Guy Cuevas track... so good, even though Cuevas' contribution sounds mainly like a couple lines of 5%-awake unenunciated nonsense)

Still need to get Killing Joke's Night Time.

Andy K, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

the only derek b track i had was on the hard as hell comp that profile put out here. i loved that album. i recently saw a used copy somewhere and i didn't buy it and now i feel dumb. had to be the first u.k. rap comp to ever be put out in the states.

x-post

scott seward, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:58 (eighteen years ago)

By 5% awake I actually meant "just ate a ten-course meal prepared by Ed Motta's personal chef."

Andy K, Saturday, 23 February 2008 02:59 (eighteen years ago)

if that reissue of killing joke's fire dances was coming out on vinyl i would totally buy it. i don't have a copy anymore. might be my favorite album of theirs! which is saying something. cuz i love everything up to that album.

scott seward, Saturday, 23 February 2008 03:00 (eighteen years ago)

I'll probably have to pick up that new 2xCD Forever Changes, although it looks like it's just the mono and stereo versions of the album along with the same outtakes as the 2001 edition.

There's also that reissue of Otis Blue, that Willie Nelson box set, and two Fairport Convention albums from Water Records.

deusner, Saturday, 23 February 2008 18:35 (eighteen years ago)

I got an advance of the Willie box. It's fuckin' fantastic.

unperson, Saturday, 23 February 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

Henry S., I have no idea about bonus material for the Replacements reissues, but I'm hoping/assuming there will be something, although I'm not sure what exists from that period. I've put off buying them for the same reason, although a nice, 2xCD of Pleased to Meet Me would be good as well.

deusner, Saturday, 23 February 2008 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

I'm really looking forward to that Gas box set that was mentioned elsewhere. I only learned they existed after they were out of print, so that was a bummer. The Feelies should rule too.

Artful Dodger - Honor Among Thieves 76
Attrition - 3 Arms And A Dead Cert 97
Big Dipper - Anthology (Apr 15)
Breathless - Between Happiness And Heartache 91
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model [30th Anniversary] 78
Midnight Oil - Diesel And Dust 88

SPK - Machine Age Voodoo 84
Visage - Anvil 82 (Mar 18)
Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue 77 (May 13)
Various - Local Anesthetic 78-83

Looks like they did a good job in digging up some choice bonus tracks for The Replacements reissues:

Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out the Trash
"Raised in the City," live, 1980 - demo*
"Shutup," live, 1980 - demo*
"Don't Turn Me Down," live, 1980 - demo*
"Shape Up," live, 1980 - demo*
"You Ain't Gotta Dance," studio demo*
"Get on the Stick," studio demo*
"Oh Baby," studio demo*
"Like You," outtake*
"Get Lost," outtake*
"A Toe Needs a Shoe," outtake*
"Customer," alternate take*
"Basement Jam," rehearsal*
"If Only You Were Lonely"

Stink
"Staples in Her Stomach," outtake*
"Hey, Good Lookin'," outtake*
"(We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock," outtake*
"You're Getting Married," solo home demo*

Hootenanny
"Lookin' for Ya"
"Junior's Got a Gun," outtake - rough mix*
"Ain't No Crime," outtake*
"Johnny Fast," outtake - rough mix*
"Treatment Bound," alternate version*
"Lovelines," alternate vocal*
"Bad Worker," solo home demo*

Let It Be
"20th Century Boy"
"Perfectly Lethal," outtake*
"Temptation Eyes," outtake*
"Answering Machine," solo home demo*
"Heartbeat -- It's a Lovebeat," outtake - rough mix*
"Sixteen Blue," outtake - alternate vocal*

The Sire reissues are coming out in October.

That must be the 6th reissue of that Costello album. My Rykodisc version has plenty of bonus tracks for me. However, Dazzle Ships is a really interesting, experimental release for OMD, well worth having. The Kid A of synth pop.

I don't get the deal with the Van Morrison reissues -- they were already remastered and reissued just a few years ago. Meanwhile, Astral Weeks is ripe for the Deluxe edition treatment.

Is anyone familiar with Breathless?

The Thompson Twins ones sound great. Also crowded (even a second CD) with b-sides, remixes and 12 inch versions for those who like that kind of thing.

A pity that they didn't re-release hard to find albums such as "Set" (never released on CD, I believe?) or "Here's To Future Days" though.

Really looking forward to the Yazoo box. Supposed to be released here in roughly a week.

Why haven't they remastered "Tim" along with the rest of the Replacements catalog? I have always considered that one their best.

Christian Death - Sex & Drugs & Jesus Christ (Jungle/Nostradamus) 88

"we will choke their used bins with our cut-outs!" at least that explains why orig. copies of this are now going for $1 instead of $2.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 22 May 2008 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

these Michael Rother solo discs that Water did are just beautiful. when i was a punk into NEU!, they always sounded too new age, but now they resound as really gorgeous pieces. since it never came out, the Harmonia live set might not count here as a reissue, but that's mind-boggling as well.

best reissue(s) of the year right here. jonathan did you pick this up yet? and whaddya think?

stephen, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

Compilations are a can of worms I usually avoid in favor of albums, but in some cases it's appropriate for especially well done collections of hard to find reggae or African singles. Such is the case with these. I've heard all but Clash Mandingue so far, and they're freakin awesome.

Kante Manfila & Sorry Bamba - Clash Mandingue: Manding Dance Music of the 60's (Oriki Music) 60s
African Scream Contest: Raw & Psychedelic Afro Sounds From Benin & Togo (Analog Africa) 70s
Nigeria Special: Modern Highlife, AFro-Sounds & Nigerian Blues (Soundway) 1970-76
Nigeria Rock Special: Psychedelic Afro-Rock & Fuzz Funk (Soundway) 1971-79
Nigeria Disco Funk Special: The Sound Of The Underground Laos Dancefloor (Soundway) 1974-79

Does anyone know if New Order's Substance will be reissued as well?

van smack, Friday, 12 September 2008 13:24 (seventeen years ago)

weren't those fripp/eno things reissued a couple years ago? or am i confused. anyhoo -- anything interesting about them, or are they just the same ol'? still haven't bought all those earlier replacements reissues, but i'll probably get around to it sooner or later.

tylerw, Friday, 12 September 2008 14:43 (seventeen years ago)

Nope, everything on Substance is on the second discs of the individual albums, plus more. At last.

Those Fripp/Eno albums have been out of print for a while, at least in U.S. No Pussyfooting is expanded to a 2 CD set that includes the original album, the infamous reversed version as played by DJ John Peel and a rather special ultra-slow version of The Heavenly Music Corporation replicating the way the vinyl album sounded when played at 16rpm. Evening Star appears in its original state without any bonus materials. Both albums were remastered by Simon Heyworth and overseen by Robert Fripp.

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 12 September 2008 14:58 (seventeen years ago)

urgggghhhh
i've heard that reversed version ... haven't heard the 16rpm version ... do i want it? PROBABLY.

tylerw, Friday, 12 September 2008 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

i'm waiting to see those blancmange reissues.
are they out yet ?

mark e, Friday, 12 September 2008 15:16 (seventeen years ago)

Swervedriver - Raise 91 (Oct 14)
Swervedriver - Mezcal Head 93 (Oct 14)
Swervedriver - Ejector Seat Reservation 95 (Oct 14)

Each have about four bonus tracks. I don't know what they were thinking in leaving off all the other tracks from the great early EPs.

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 25 September 2008 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

i bought evening star on vinyl this year....it's hella good.

excited for muscle of love reissue! i can never find that on vinyl....

Was supposed to be '08, pushed back to '09...The Who Sell Out 2-disc Deluxe Edition. No word on a track listing yet, other than that it may include the long-sought-after "Sodding About."

The first three Buzzcocks albums will be reissued as double deluxe editions, with previously unreleased tracks, Peel sessions, demos and live versions. They will also tour the UK and play the first two albums in their entirety. Rat bastards just reissued them in 2004. They'd better come to the U.S. again.

Buzzcocks - Another Music In A Different Kitchen (Oct 27)
Buzzcocks - Love Bites (Oct 27)
Buzzcocks - A Different Kind Of Tension (Oct 27)

The Blancmange reissues are out. Bought them all. Hadn't heard the "I Can See It" extended version of "Why Don't They Leave Things Alone?" before, and worth it to me for that, on top of all the b-sides and 12" versions. It's like John Hughes revamped my favorite track of theirs.

Different Kitchen's been pretty hard to find for a while now. Though for some reason Love Bites has never gone out of print.

A Flock Of Seagulls – Story Of A Young Heart 84

Has "Listen" been recently re-released? Because I would really like that one.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

Apparently, Warner Japan have remastered the first three (proper) Van Morrison albums. Hopefully the rest of the world will follow in not too long.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)

I was wondering about the early Van Morrison reissues, given that it's the 40th anniversary of Astral Weeks. I would have sworn that one alone would have gotten at least 3 Deluxe treatments.

Instead there were Van Morrison reissues of just the 80s and 90s stuff instead.

Joe Petagno's Imagination Station! (Mackro Mackro), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

Apparently he owns copyright only from the mid 70s onwards, while Warner have to agree in the case of the older stuff. And Warner are notoriously slow when it comes to remasters (Prince.......)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

huh? Warners has been reissue crazy lately, via Rhino, Wounded Bird, and Collectibles. Isn't Prince the one holding up the early reissues?

I mean I wouldn't be surprised to see Morrison holding up reissues of the early stuff for his own convoluted reasons. Then again, he has that right to reissue or not reissue, too.

Joe Petagno's Imagination Station! (Mackro Mackro), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 22:35 (seventeen years ago)

would love it if they could dig up some astral weeks sessions outtakes ... but seems like if they had them, they would've put em out a while ago. right?

tylerw, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 22:43 (seventeen years ago)

In the case of Warner, it isn't just Prince. Neil Young, most of Alice Cooper's 70s back catalogue, Buffalo Springfield, Gram Parsons, James Taylor, Doobie Brothers, Little Feat, Warren Zevon.

There are also some omissions among those that have been remastered. Like, Joni Mitchell, but not the three mid 70s albums. Madonna, but not "Like a Prayer", Jackson Browne, but not "For Everyman". And there's Van Morrison in the same category.

It seems that most of the old Atlantic/Atco/Reprise/Asylum albums seem to have gotten remastered. It is mostly Warner's own titles, and the ones released on Wea during the 80s, that are being overlooked.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 23 October 2008 00:12 (seventeen years ago)

It must be added, though, that all CDs released by Warner in the 80s sounded fantastic then. They did a much better audio mastering job than any other majors at the time.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 23 October 2008 00:14 (seventeen years ago)

Eddy Grant reissues are on Universal, and will include a bonus DVD.

Astral Weeks and Moondance sound pretty decent, but it would nice to see something special done for them at any rate.

According to MOJO, the Genesis 1970-1975 will come out November on SACD/CD hybrid and DVD dual disc, but won't be individually released 'til next year. Maybe if you're good Santa will get ya one.

Genesis 1970-1975 box set, that is.

Fastnbulbous, Sunday, 26 October 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

Is Mute doing basic cd versions of all their Can hybrid discs? I was delighted to find Monster Movie at a store last night. I'd heard that the early hybrid albums had gone OOP some time ago, and have gotten rather pricey. I was missing MM and Soundtracks for my collection. The MM I bought had the remaster artwork, but carried a 2008 copyright, was sans superaudio layer, and thus had a lower list price (14 bucks). Since I don't have a SACD player, this could be good news.

The Wild Shirtless Lyrics of Mark Farner (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 3 November 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

...how pricey, would you say? I've got an almost-complete set of the SACD remasters and no SACD player, wondering if I should ebay them and pick up the cheaper reissues with part of the money...

from aquarius, re: no pussyfooting...

"But the real bonus of this deluxe package is the 40 minute "half-speed version" of "The Heavenly Music Corporation". When there were 16 2/3 rpm options on early record players, a lot of young guitarists would use the speed to slow down 33 1/3 rpm records to learn and practice their favorite guitar lines. Here it makes the drones so deep and heavy, Fripp's guitar lines more crushing, the layers creep and slither sounding like it could be one of the weird drone cd-r's we sell tons of. If it was in a black sleeve with skulls on it, and was called Skulled Space Outrosphere or Radiant Black Blood, and sealed with wax or wrapped in twine, and was limited to 100 copies, we'd sell a million of em (well, okay... 100!!). Sooooooooooooo Recommended and Essential!"

Re:Can SACDS

Monster Movie is going for $19-$40 on Amazon marketplace. I saw a used copy go for about $16 on Ebay the other week.

Soundtracks on Amazon starts @ $39.99

Tago Mago on Amazon starts @ only $10

Ege Bamyasi on Amazon starts @ $20

Looking at Amazon, they list 2008 reissues of MM, Tago, Ege, and Future Days (all listing for $11.99 (!)). The other SACDs appear to still be in print, bar Soundtracks, which looks to be OOP across the board.

drag city doing a public service by reissuing this:

Well, it's harder to be more obscure and unheralded than JT IV. He barely even tried to sell his own music, almost always giving copies away of his impossibly rare loner-punk 45's. Interest arose recently in his short career due to his inclusion on the "Staring Down The Barrel" rare punk compilation, but information was sorely lacking. He can in fact be revealed to be one John Henry Timmis IV, who attended New Trier high school and moved around Evanston, Winettka, Northbrook, and spending his late teens in east Rogers Park idolizing Bowie, Zappa and Lou Reed. Those influences couldn't really prepare one for JT's 1st impossibly rare 45 that was released in 1980-- the basement-blasting assault of "Death Trip" (not the stooges' number) or the aptly titled 'Waiting For The CTA" (a bit of a Velvet Underground take-off though). His second single was actually recorded in Odyssey studios on Michigan ave., but still shares a similar home-recorded feel and scuzz, but beyond the squall of "Destructo Rock", sensitive downer acoustic odes surface--on "In The Can" and "Out Of The Can", Timmis's quavering voice tells tales of prison, junkies, trick-turning, madness, and an all-encompassing yearn for escape.

LP/DVD only, apparently, but i think i'm buying it.

Kenneth Higney - Attic Demonstration (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962240/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=Tm0jaDjkZuB)

In the words of Keneth Higney 'Attic Demonstration" was not released. As the old joke goes, "it escaped"
in September of 1976. The songs were never recorded with a release in mind and are one take demo versions of songs I had hoped to get covered. At that
time I did not think of myself as a performer but rather as a song writer for other artists. "Attic D", "A.D.", "Attic Demo" and/or "A. Demo", as the
collection has come to be known, was pressed simply because I got tired of duplicating cassette tapes whenever I sent a song or two out for
consideration. After the records were sitting in my house, I had the brilliant idea of trying to sell some copies. Didn't get a lot of
reviews (in fact, didn't sell a lot of records) but one of them, in the now defunct magazine, Trouser Press, stated that I "stagger into chaos and
dissonance" and sound like a "cross between Lou Reed and Neil Young without the aid of melody".

Over the years, this collection of music has gathered a bit of a cult following and rightly so. A
uniquely personal window ino the mind and song writing of one Kenneth Higney.

Telegraph Ave - s/t (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962239/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=EyVUdIlkHrO)

Telegraph Avenue got their start when lead
singer, Bo Ichikawa, returned home to Peru after a six-month stint in
San Francisco (if you hadn't already guessed by their obvious choice of
band name) and their 1971 debut album soon became the best-selling rock
album of the year. Here heavy distorted guitar mixed with Latin bass
and percussion meld to create a kind of south-of-the-equator Latin
groove meets West Coast psych with a slightly poppier feel. All lyrics
are sung in English. The band unfortunately split after the release of
just one more album, but the drummer and singer would soon join up with
two Argentine friends to form another great band, the South American
band of the '70s, Tarkus.
Tarkus - s/t (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962238/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=aWcXPlFJXVe)

Speaking of Tarkus... In the beginning of 1972, Walo Carrillo drummer from Peruvian band Telegraph Avenue
receives the visit of two friends from Argentina: Guillermo Van Lacke and Daro Gianella. This trio begins to play some music at Walo's place.
Finally, Alex Nathanson joins them as the singer, but now singing in Spanish. Thus, these two ex-Telegraph Avenue members with two Argentine musicians
begin to play heavy rock music in Lima. These friends called themselves Tarkus, and they were definitively too loud for the scene of that time. This
eponymous album was recorded on eight channels in only five weeks with all original tunes. Their album was the first heavy rock LP from South
America.

Killer guitar styles, yelling vocals mixed perfectly with a deep bass-lines and powerful drums.
This album is the top hard to find original record in South America.
Big Joe - At The Control (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962237/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=STHfABhibav)

At the Control" is Joseph Spalding's (aka Big Joe) second album with
influential Kingston producer Bunny Lee. Both a singer and a composer,
Big Joe went on to work with the equally influential Linval Thompson,
and he recorded at all the hotspots of the day: King Tubby's, Channel
One, and Randy's in Kingston. The Aggrovators, Lee's premier backing
group, support Big Joe with a tightly rhythmic and minimalist groove.
Henri Bowane - Double Take - Tala Kaka (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962236/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=sP3sUGZGn4P)

Henri Bowane was a crucial figure in the development of Congo rumba. He was one of the first generation singer/guitarists to record in Kinshasa (then
Leopoldville) during the early 1950s. In
the early days, Bowane was a star, releasing dozens of hit
78rpms, and was reputed to be the first Congolese musician to drive a
Cadillac. These songs demonstrate a casual fusion between the original Congo rumba guitar style
and the prevalent highlife rhythms and phrasing of Ghanaian session musicians. The horns and chorus voices have a distinct anglophone flavour but,
during the improvised sebenes, the colour of Bowane's inspiration shows through. He takes the solo guitar role with support from at least one Zaiko
guitarist. The rhythms and inflections range from rumba and cavacha through highlife to calypso and soul/blues.
(http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962234/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=dclZdXO2ICw)Joe & Bing - Daybreak (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962234/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=dclZdXO2ICw)

There aren't many records as magical, as transcendent and as deserving
of rediscovery as this one. Its songs conjure a perfect lost America
populated by teenage California dreamers in suede fringe jackets, Chris
Hillman haircuts, jeans and Jack Purcells, strawberry blondes in powder
blue Beetles and Arizona highways stretching toward endless summer
dawns. Through a peculiar set of circumstances (most far beyond the
control of their creators) these recordings have come to bewitch rare
groove hunters, soft rock diggers and collectors of folk and Americana
to a sweet madness, but they've never had what would be called an
"official" release until now. Daybreak has attained "holy grail"
status, it's associations with Left Banke producer Harry Lookofsky,
producer/engineer George Klabin and their friend, the Brazilian genius
of arranging, Deodato, being the icing on the cake! A collection of
genius songs, all but lost...
Os Mutantes - Everything Is Possible! (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962233/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=XpVieuEEL3s)

It was the perfect band name. In the late '60s, in a convoluted South American country called Brazil,
people asked themselves if these three lunatics hadn't really come from
another planet. Besides the bizarre characters that Rita Lee and
brothers Sergio and Arnaldo Baptista would impersonate on TV programs,
concerts and on their album covers, the Mutantes' music sounded light
years ahead of any other pop band in Brazil. In this compilation you
will only hear the Mutantes at the best and most humorous phases of
their career.
Patrick Adams - Master Of The Masterpieces (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962232/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=LKz5rB1eNCy)

This anthology covers the many highlights of the long career of Patrick
Adams, especially his cooperation with producer Peter Brown in P&P
Records, starting in 1974. Disco exploded in the late 70's, and Adams
became a key figure in its growth with 22 hits between 1978 and 1981.
With disco's passing, Adams evolved, lending his talents to Salt 'N'
Pepa, Keith Sweat and Carol Lynn Townes.
Young Marble Giants - Live At The Hurrah (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962231/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=jU2YOj3FHan)

The Young Marble Giants were a Cardiff post-punk band. A trio formed in 1978, their music was constructed
around the powerful and minimal instrumentation of brothers Philip and Stuart Moxham supporting the naive untrained vocals of Alison Statton. Stuart
Moxham wrote the majority of the band's songs, and his writing was often deceptively simple-seeming, giving the YMG's classic work a uniquely fragile
yet powerful quality. This set recorded 'Live At The Hurrah' in 1980 (the same year they released their seminal 'Colossal Youth' LP) captures the
band at the peak of their abilities both in terms of performance and song writing.
V/A - Can't Stop It Vol 1 & 2 (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962230/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=2KXKMleCYWU)

Our first collaboration with Australia's stellar Chapter Music label comes in the form of two volumes
compiling Australia's incredible post-punk history, featuring the finest selection of bands from the period 1978-82, with many previously unreleased
tracks. A fantastically inventive time in Australian music history, when Australia stepped out of the shadow of overseas influence and asserted its
own musical identity for the first time. Featuring tracks by future members of bands such as the Dirty Three, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds,
Einsturzende Neubauten and the Gobetweens, Can't Stop It! is just a small indication of the creativity and innovation bubbling away under the surface
of Australia's lumbering pub-rock music culture twenty-five years ago. All of the bands on Can't Stop It! released their music independently, either
themselves or through the handful of visionary labels of the time such as Au-Go-Go, M Squared, Missing Link or Innocent Records. Unfortunately much of
the music has since been ignored or forgotten ... until now!
Tracey Thorn - A Distant Shore (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962229/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=F3C41Y1Csi1)

The essential Cherry Red LP, A Distant Shore is a timeless classic.
Recorded for just 138 when she was just 20 years old, it is an
astonishing demonstration of Tracey's songwriting talent, stripped down
to vocal and acoustic guitar. Both the single Plain Sailing and the
album featured strongly in the indie charts, and the LP has now been
certified a silver disk with over 60,000 sales in the UK. Tracey was in
the Marine Girls and of course went on to form Everything But The Girl
with Ben Watt.
John Cage - Cheap Imitation (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962228/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=J1hBnGXJnEr)

Humbly engaged but never over-determined, Cheap Imitation remains John
Cage's most devotional and enduring homage to a lifelong contract
between the Maestro of Stony Point and Erik Satie. Composed when he was
refused permission to use the arrangement for Satie's "Socrates" as the
"accompaniment" to Merce Cunningham's choreography, Cheap Imitation is
a tempered, harmonically rich and wryly simple melodic examination.
Jackie Mittoo Feat. Winston Wright - At King Tubbys (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962226/goto:http://www.anthologyrecordings.com/release.asp?album=uD5c4ZnupOY)

Over the years, many have paid tribute to the dynamic range and skill
of the late, great Jackie Mittoo. From the emergence of ska right
through to rocksteady and the boss sounds of reggae, he was front and
center -- a pivotal figure and a sharp move-maker. Even after
relocating to Canada, a land not necessarily known for its funk factor,
this Studio One veteran worked tirelessly to share his gift and spread
the music of Jamaica to a wider audience.

Plenty of new releases on the way. Aside from the Yoga Records (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962225/goto:http://www.myspace.com/yogarecords) and Guerssen (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962224/goto:http://www.guerssen.com/empresa.html?idioma=eng) collaborations
we mentioned in the last update we will also be releasing the entire Gear Fab (http://e2ma.net/go/1517723909/1386981/50962223/goto:http://gearfab.swiftsite.com/)
catalog (over 130 titles) so be on the lookout for some amazing
psych/garage/outsider rarities in the near future.

Finally we're very excited to announce a new series of releases that will focus on exclusive 'live' and
'archival' (demos, home
recordings etc) music from some of our favorite Anthology artists. We've got some pretty incredible stuff lining up for this series so as
always
stay tuned and be well.
