so believe it or not, the mp3 sort of neuters the 808s on this track. on my car stereo the 808 in this mp3 sounds like someone banging on a water-filled dumpster with a huge rubber mallet. but i have a radio rip of this track w/ the bass intact and it *feels* like someone taking a rubber jackhammer to my temples.

this track also sounds a little better pitched-up.

The problem with most of the juke stuff that I have heard is that it is so derivative of the original stuff that I would just rather listen to the older stuff that was recorded on hardware. Why would I listen to dude trying to sound like Deeon or Sluggo on Fruityloops when I could just listen to the originals.

There has been a real devide this decade between trying to emulate older genres on computer vs new styles that are a direct result of making music on the computer. I can deal with the newer stuff that sounds like computers because it is the only way you could make it, but most of the stuff that just sounds like a retread of older genres leaves me cold.

They were handmade electronic drums that were designed by Wolfgang Flur.

The sticks were metal rods with a light electric charge running through them. When Wolfgang hit the metal pads it completed a circuit and the different voices would sound. Flur goes into a fair amount of detail in his auto-biography.
