"slide it in"

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

what's that song about?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

sex

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

Much like Foreigner, and the lives of many men, the Whitesnake trajectory is from sex songs to love songs.

Eazy, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

I had no idea there were 2 versions of "Here I Go Again."

Savannah Smiles, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

the first is a duet with Carly Simon.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

Hobos vs Drifters

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

"Still of the Night", followed by "Slow and Easy", followed by "Here I Go Again"

Joe, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

"Slow An' Easy" is far and away the greatest thing they've ever done.

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

"Slow an' Easy" for me - 1/2 wannabe Zep + 1/2 wannabe Y&T = magic.

It's a shame "Spit It Out" wasn't a single.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 19:41 (eighteen years ago)

the first is a duet with Carly Simon.

hilarious, whether you're kidding or not

haha

Dude. Whitesnake handily pre-date the horrific likes of Y&T.

Dude. Whitesnake handily pre-date the horrific likes of Y&T.

Actually, no. Y&T's first album was in the mid-70s, and their "breakthrough" was in '81. Slide It In came out in '84. Obviously, Coverdale's stuff with Purple was earlier, but it didn't have this sound.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

You CANNOT tell me, however, that Coverdale heard that Y&T and attempted to emulate them. Sorry, you can't. Nyah.

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Whitesnake's A&R might have, though...

Eazy, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

er, A&R guy

Eazy, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

"Slide It In" for sure.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

Y&T formed in 1974

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

Y&T were, if not hugely popular, at least pretty well-known in the UK (Metal division) by the early 80s so there's no reason at all that Coverdale & Co. couldn't have been influenced by their sound. Whitesnake strike me as a band that definitely adapted to what was popular.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

I was never sure which bandname was more irritating: Yesterday And Today or Y&T.

I'm w/Alex. "Slow 'n Easy" it is.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 04:46 (eighteen years ago)

here i go again, in part because the remote viewer used the lyrics in an album title of theirs

electricsound, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 04:52 (eighteen years ago)

>Whitesnake strike me as a band that definitely adapted to what was popular.

Coverdale fired the entire band prior to making their U.S. breakthrough album, so yeah.

I don't like them (any lineup) enough to vote in this poll.

unperson, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 04:54 (eighteen years ago)

This poll requires intense deliberation.

Is "Don't Break My Heart Again" an alternate title for "You're Gonna Break My Heart Again?" Because I could definitely be voting for that one.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 05:05 (eighteen years ago)

"Slow an' Easy", with "Love Ain't No Stranger" a close second. John Sykes made this band great.

A. Begrand, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 05:09 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Yeah, I got that and thought, you know, I actually like that record but I don't think I need 1/5 of that bonus stuff.
