anything else as good as 'honey' 'i'm in love'?

if you like jazz standards, search With Cannonball Adderley, although she doesn't sing on every track.. that's all i know.

one year passes...

randomly purchased this a few months ago in the ongoing Head clearance.
if this hasn't become one of the most played albums of 2009 for me then i dont know what has.
absolutely brilliant and in parts rather funny.
so today again in the random selection i found a 2-for-1 cd of two studio albums she made with billy may.
thats the weekend sorted then.
suspect i need to track down that album she made with cannonball adderley now ..

Nancy Wilson is one of my big discoveries of the year too. I picked up a couple 60s albums at the thrift and fell head-over-heels in love. The best i got though is I Know I Love Him from 1973 - looks like it's way out of print, but perfect early-70s R&B that's become one of my all-time favorite records.

and A Nancy Wilson Christmas is sublime if you're into the Holiday Spirits

i feel a new door opening for my 2010 treasure hunts.

suspect i wont be able to find that crimbo album in time for this years festivities, but its definitely on the list.

I like her phrasing on that YouTube clip of “Don’t Misunderstand.” Not that familiar with her discography but always intended to explore. I see that DJ Soul Sister is repping for Wilson’s 70s disco and funk releases on Capitol

This was in my parents' rack when I was a kid - I loved the title track but the Beatles covers were ... not good.

And apparently now a full-on tribute from WKCR until Tuesday.

Didn't know she lived out in the desert near Joshua Tree. A nice remembrance from the local paper:

Nice, thanks.

WKCR tribute doesn't seem to have started yet.

This detail surprised me too. She was living in Pioneertown, which is a tiny place built around sets that were made for filming old TV westerns like "The Cisco Kid." There's a "Main Street" with fake saloon, hotel, saddlery, etc. I happened to visit the place early this year. It was extremely windy up there, sagebrush blowing everywhere.

WKCR changed the tribute to today Monday December 17:

WKCR will be playing her music on Dec. 17th (2-5 AM, 5-9:30 AM, 12-3 PM, 6-9 PM)

Listened a little to it this morning and heard her and Cannonball.

I picked up a copy of her 1968 LP Easy a few weeks ago. It’s nice, cool, breezy. She does the tunes you would expect at that point in time… “Wave,” “Gentle on My Mind,” “Love Is Blue,” and so on.

It’s impressive how many albums she charted in the ‘60s. Her heyday was roughly the same as that of her Capitol label mates the Beatles and the Beach Boys but she sold to more of an adult audience I guess.

Nancy Wilson fans should check out the 1970 Hawaii Five-O episode “Trouble in Mind,” in which she plays a singer with a heroin habit. Harry Guardino plays her pianist/arranger.
