probably in the 20 range. but that's the album. some of the songs ("rollin'," "wild west show," "save a horse") have been a lot more because of being put on mixes or whatever. i like the album and understand the enthusiasm for it without fully sharing it. i like the idea of the muzik mafia more than the muzik part of it, i guess. (including gretchen wilson, really -- like the singles, less sold on the body of work.) i did buy it mostly because of ilx threads, but at least i listened to the singles first. definitely not my least favorite thing i've bought or downloaded because of ilx, although i'd have to think a bit to figure out what that is.

I got it in the post and probably wouldn't have paid attention to it if not for ILM so that sort of counts. It's still on my shelves but I've not played it for looooong time

first Big and Rich is still 2/3 of a great album, after that diminishing returns set in fast (same with Gretchen Wilson).

It's on me, skot. Gotta make at least token attempts to broaden the tastes. Somewhat mitigated by utter lack of success in the mainstream marketplace.

I suppose I should be glad no one has ever bought an album because of me.

scott I bought that Howlin' Rain album almost solely because of you and I love it to death! the new one kinda disappointed me though so I'm glad I didn't pay for it

i own a couple of agalloch albums mostly because of scott. (well i bought the first one because of scott. then i bought another one because i liked the first one. agalloch is better than big&rich.)

Did not buy, but downloaded. Awful crap, though some of it kinda funny in a "gee, this is awful crap" kinda way. Would not have been aware or interested if not for ILX (esp. xzzuzch). On the other hand, thank you ILX for the Santogold.

i do, and did, like country. i don't like gretchen wilson, and haven't been compelled to check our miranda lambert. this album is not great, but perfectly fine, btw.

at my college my sr. year 'save a horse ride a cowboy' was played w/ frequency at the local bar -- lol rural midwest -- this was a popular song w/ lots of fans and not exactly a great representation of the influence of lol pop critics

i bet there are less-remembered albums that were voted higher by ilx, not at all popular nationally at the time and are listened to and remembered by fewer ppl now

van lear rose has held up very well for me personally.

country is a genre where i just sorta let my rockist tendencies ride and don't worry about it.

like maybe i miss something, but i only really feel like listening to country every so often, so like i'm just gonna pull out honky tonk heroes or merle or something. not enough time to sift through all the garbage with the new stuff, and really no inclination to.

and the biggest prob w/xhuckx is that he's such a damn entertaining writer that he makes all these mediocre albums so SO AWESOME then yr disappointed when you actually here them.

x-post I mean that it presupposes that there's no way critic types could actually enjoy listening to these acts, hooks be damned, whereas with other forms of pop you're supposedly lying to yourself if you fail to give in.

ILX has gotten me to buy all kinds of terrible stuff over the years. Truthfully, I don't trust this group's opinion on anything but rock music. I think I'm much, much more discriminating about what I listen to in the pop, country, and electronic realms, and my tastes simply don't seem to align well with those of people here. It's to be expected.

I love reoccurring motif of asking Ned if he'd bought it yet.

On revisiting, it's actually Ned himself saying he wants to buy it, but just hasn't been able to yet.

I went to grad school with someone who was closely related to either Big or Rich, I can never remember which one. He was very sensitive about it and would get mad if you brought it up. So of course "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" echoed through the halls of the English Department on a regular basis.

Haven't listened in a while, but debut seemed great, second not as good but wormed its way onto my Nashville Scene ballot, third no good, didn't listen to any solo albums except reissue of Big K's first, which I wrote about briefly in the Voice, excerpted here (from a longer piece, which also covered Jon Nicholson, talented B&G mentee, whose A Little Sumpin Sumpin, despite title, went a bit deeper and darker than their albums):

Live a Little , Big Kenny's pre-Big & Rich solo album, finally given a proper release on The Disney Music Group's Hollywood Records, brings the
noise candy, not the nose candy. It's a skyful of Purple Planetberries,
exploding on cue, presented 2 U by B.K., a psych-pop-goes-the-country impresario and aw-shucks-ma'am workaday wizard, bopping through amber waves with his drum machine. Kenny's as much wistful crooner as carny barker when singing through a megaphone-like vocoder
about "a place where dreams come true." He gets his comeuppance in "Cheater's
