I like both but I do own a lot more Cult albums.

Nate Carson, Monday, 15 December 2008 23:13 (seventeen years ago)

This isn't even a contest.

Do Boards Of Canada even have a logo? Probably think they don't need one.

Boards of Canada's logo is a face with no face on it. I like them better than the 'Cult, but not better than The Cult.

I'M FAMILIAR WITH BOC

i'm stabbin' my way to the top (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 13:47 (seventeen years ago)

Boards of Canada are okay but not great, "Telephasic Workshop" is the only really great tune by them I've heard. On the other hand, the only Blue Oyster Cult song I know is "Black Betty", which is nice, but still... I guess I gotta go with BoC.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 13:49 (seventeen years ago)

So you've never heard "Fear the Reaper," then? Is Scandanavia really that much of a cultural vacuum?

Cat-Wrangler (Pillbox), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 13:51 (seventeen years ago)

"Black Betty"? By the Blue Oyster Cult? Or do you mean "Black Blade"?

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 13:54 (seventeen years ago)

No, I mean the song that goes, "Oooh, Black Betty and family..." Isn't it by BOC?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 13:56 (seventeen years ago)

So you've never heard "Fear the Reaper," then? Is Scandanavia really that much of a cultural vacuum?

Nah, it's just me living in a vacuum considering rock music. I know this song title, but I don't think I've ever heard the actual song.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 13:58 (seventeen years ago)

But do you know less about rock music than The Lex, is the question

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 13:59 (seventeen years ago)

Well, I did know The Kinks was some 80's rock band, unlike Lex.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

xxpost: er, that's "Don't Fear the Reaper" actually. Anyway, Tuomas, if you are truly the last remaining human being not to have seen this actually-very-funny SNL skit, please do so without acting on whatever impulse you may have to repeat any phrases involving the word "cowbell."

Cat-Wrangler (Pillbox), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, I have seen that cowbell sketch, but I didn't know it was about "Don't Fear the Reaper". So I guess I have heard the tune after all! It's not as good as "Telephasic Workshop" though.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 14:20 (seventeen years ago)

I'd question if there was a single SNL sketch that someone outside of the US should automatically be expected to have seen

i'm stabbin' my way to the top (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

not to digress to much here, but is SNL not on European television? I've spent quite a bit of time on that side of the Atlantic & I know that many Euro countries got The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Friends etc. as of the early 2000s. I guess I just assumed..

Cat-Wrangler (Pillbox), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

I vote for the umlaut.

(And I've never seen what's so damn funny about that cowbell sketch.)

The Simpsons, Seinfeld, and Friends are indeed on Finnish television too. I think they tried to show SNL in here too at some point, but I don't think it was a success. Then again, I haven't owned a telly in 7 years, so I don't really know what's on these days.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)

i have to go with the Cult, but ppl are being a little negative on Boards of Canada they are pretty awesome too

Not in the UK anyway

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 December 2008 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

I think I might actually vote for the Boards in this one! I like the Blue Oyster Cult quite a bit though.

Sundar, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

"Don't Fear the Reaper" is a pretty great song, but I'm giving this to Bs of C.

See when I was young Blue Oyster Cult were known as the Cult, then that fool Astbury came along and took the name over so everyone had to call them BOC. Now that's been taken over too so wtf do we call them? The Oysters? Maybe I'll just start referring to them as Soft White Underbelly and sneer at anyone that doesn't immediately understand what I mean.

Matt #2, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

I've always wondered, does Blue Oyster Cult have anything to do with the Blue Oyster gay bar in the Police Academy movies?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 17:02 (seventeen years ago)
