little Red corvette is included twice. Don't be fooled.

I was listening to the digital music on the cable tv today and Pop Life came on the R&B station. I'd never really cared about that song since it was a hit, but today it was amazing. I guess he had so many great records for a while it was easy to take some of them for granted.

On the other hand, maybe the Comcast Soul station was playing LTD, Billy Paul and Maze, so Prince just seemed amazing in comparison.

james k polk, Sunday, 21 December 2008 09:16 (seventeen years ago)

aha just as i figured first person is for something i didn't include. prince is a difficult man to pin down.

the thing that always gets me about prince is that- who do you compare him to? you can get his influences- parliamnet, earth wind and fire, sly etc but he came up with some peculiar to him and that is waht makes him good.

Hinklepicker, Sunday, 21 December 2008 09:21 (seventeen years ago)

something peculiar to him

Hinklepicker, Sunday, 21 December 2008 09:21 (seventeen years ago)

If I Was Your Girfriend should be there.

This list makes me sad. I felt like voting for The Beautiful Ones just for the performance. Guess I'll go with Gett Off or something.

Popture, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

i want to complain about the random choice of songs but instead i'll vote for when doves cry.

i've been listening to disc 3 of the hits/the b-sides all the time for the last month.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 02:05 (seventeen years ago)

in the absence of The Beautiful Ones, it's between Kiss and Let's Go Crazy

Kiss

"Sometimes It Snows In April". Musically it is atypical and not very representative and this doesn't mean I don't like more typical Prince. Just that this song is so beautiful that it is impossible to ignore.

And my second favourite, "Paisley Park", isn't an option at all.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 03:09 (seventeen years ago)

let's go crazy

"made smashable" (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 03:24 (seventeen years ago)

lotsa great songs here but "I could never take the place of your man" is practically the only one that totally hits the sweet spot of Prince songs i absolutely love

^^^^this -- prob my fav prince song ever

choom gangsta (deej), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 03:43 (seventeen years ago)

voted for Kiss since U Got the Look isn't an option

miss precious perfect (musically), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 03:47 (seventeen years ago)

"The Cross," which, thanks to its guitars and drum sound, is the kind of Jesus song Jesus might like.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 03:52 (seventeen years ago)

Glad to see "Ballad of Dorothy Parker" is one of the options. That got my vote.

lou, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

Oh shit, I didn't see that or I might've been tempted to vote, but I'm going to go rough and go with GETT OFF. It just builds and builds and builds and, like "No New Tale to Tell", is a fine pop song with a pan-flute solo.

Starship and Coffee?

Eazy, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 04:34 (seventeen years ago)

I would've been another "Beautiful Ones" voter.

Eric H., Tuesday, 30 December 2008 04:35 (seventeen years ago)

voted for Kiss since U Got the Look isn't an option

oh yeah, wtf

We've already had two Prince singles polls, but what the hell, I can vote in this too. Since several of my favourites are missing here ("Sexy M. F.", "Let's Pretend We're Married", "Soul Sanctuary", "If I Was Your Girlfriend", "Cream", "Shockadelica", "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World", "Mountains"), it's pretty easy to choose "Controversy".

Tuomas, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 10:13 (seventeen years ago)

I'd love to hear a Prince song called "Starship and Coffee"! :)

Tuomas, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 10:15 (seventeen years ago)

I choreographed a tap dance to "Starfish and Coffee"

The Reverend, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 10:34 (seventeen years ago)

Dude, you already came out of the closet.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 11:31 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sorry, bad joke.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 11:32 (seventeen years ago)

"Sister" and "When you were mine"

outdoor_miner, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 16:10 (seventeen years ago)

"Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)"

beta blog, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

my actual favorite prince song is not on this list ("Horny Toad" if you were wondering) but I ended up completely surprising myself and voting for "The Cross", which means i should probably dig that out and listen to it again.

VISION QUEST TO KNOCK YOU UP (John Justen), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

"I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man"

Melancholy and celebratory and hedonistic. A perfect Prince combination. But really why would I ever want to choose just one?

matt2, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

Where the fuck is "Computer Blue?"

^likes tilt-a-whirls (Pancakes Hackman), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

if we really wanted to get serious we should poll best Prince dancefloor jam, best slow jam, best uptempo rock song, etc.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

^^ good idea

The People's Republic of Padgettstan (some dude), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

no Lady Cab Driver? no Let's Work? oh well ... guess I'll vote for Controversy, or maybe for Gett Off (because it could use some shine and no one else is gonna vote for it , I bet).

Romeo Jones, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

um .... EROTIC CITY, anyone?

Romeo Jones, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

totally unexpected result, although I love "Controversy" so that's pretty cool.
