Supernaut
Snowblind
Cornucopia

any of these could get my vote...this is a great f*cking album!

The Cruelty & Envy Stock Exchange (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:41 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah great record. "Supernaut" gets my vote.

Neil S, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

Great album, I bet Supernaut wins big here, which it should.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

Under the Sun is the heaviest they ever got.

Such a killer record. I have no issue whatsoever with Changes.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

Right. "Changes" has some of the eeriest mellotron ever put to tape. Truly, it's a power ballad for werewolves.*

The Cruelty & Envy Stock Exchange (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

'The famous COKE-cola company of LA'

calstars, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 22:50 (seventeen years ago)

Supernaut stands out the most. Kinda wish my vinyl copy of this was in better shape. Love the photo/sleeve insert thing.

There was even a brief period when I preferred Sally Forth. (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

"Changes" by a zillion lightyears. One of the best songs ever made by a hard rock band!

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 22:56 (seventeen years ago)

SUPERNAUT 4EVR

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 23:11 (seventeen years ago)

"It's like the Apocalypse Now of Metal, or something."
-Phil Freeman

Roy Orbison is really just the male Patsy Cline (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 24 December 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

Awesome, awesome album. I love "Supernaut," but I might love "Snowblind" more. Honestly, though, there's not a bad song on here. Even "FX," which doesn't count as a song, is fine.

unperson, Wednesday, 24 December 2008 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

changes could be cut from this record and i'd never miss it.

voted cornucopia because the silent majority are going either vote supernaut or changes.

cuisine of demise (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 24 December 2008 03:35 (seventeen years ago)

Tempted to go with FX, just to be obstinate, but it's Supernaut obviously.

xhuxk, Wednesday, 24 December 2008 03:37 (seventeen years ago)

I will admit that Cornucopia is pretty fucking evil.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 24 December 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I'm going through
CHAAAAAANGES

My friend in Boise made a comp of Boise music peeps covering this song. Man is it great.

Abbott of the Trapezoid Monks (Abbott), Friday, 9 January 2009 02:18 (seventeen years ago)

Wait, what does the sleeve insert look like? Never seen this.

calstars, Friday, 9 January 2009 02:22 (seventeen years ago)

I always feel like such a freak when people talk about this album

I love sabbath but when I listen to "supernaut" I start to think my copy of vol 4 has a different version than everybody else's, you all have got mysterious access to this secret awesome song

I don't get it

Edward III, Friday, 9 January 2009 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Supernaut.

But I love the clattering groove of "Tomorrow's Dream", with those stuttering snare hits by Ward.

A. Begrand, Friday, 9 January 2009 02:44 (seventeen years ago)

calstars, early CDs maybe didn't have this? I don't have the vinyl, but I'm assuming it's the picture of the band in front of an audience in a nice theater/music hall with Ozzy flashing the peace sign.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 9 January 2009 07:55 (seventeen years ago)

Supernaut is the best song Edward III but it's not the only good one...what are yr thoughts on Snowblind? Cornucopia? St Vitus Dance (slightly inferior re-write of After Forever I know)? Tomorrow's Dream? those are really good songs too...

This is my fave Sabbath album (of all the ones I heard) but I am going to have to re-inspect Paranoid someday soon...

Pepper needs new shorts! (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 9 January 2009 08:38 (seventeen years ago)

Got to be Supernaut, really. And yeah, Wheels of Kihnfusion, St Vitus Dance and all, but seeing as nobody has mentioned it, how about Laguna Sunrise? I don't really know what Balearic means, but this is kind of how I imagine it.

hologram of balls (gnarly sceptre), Friday, 9 January 2009 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

i thought balearic meant "in a sweaty disco"

stuffy old songs about the buttocks (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 9 January 2009 11:24 (seventeen years ago)

rather than "stoned on a beach at 6 am"

stuffy old songs about the buttocks (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 9 January 2009 11:24 (seventeen years ago)

I was thinking beachside comedown. Maybe some topless chicks building a sandcastle with a sangria moat. And Tommy Iommi instead of Chris Rea.

hologram of balls (gnarly sceptre), Friday, 9 January 2009 14:03 (seventeen years ago)

i would make that scene.

stuffy old songs about the buttocks (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 9 January 2009 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

whoah, track after track is this ever a scorcher.

Charlie Howard, Friday, 9 January 2009 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

maybe the towering, majestic opening cut needs some love

Charlie Howard, Friday, 9 January 2009 15:27 (seventeen years ago)

The only problem with Supernaut is that it's produced in a kind of "...And Justice For All" way when it should have been more of a "Master of Puppets" steez

I've always wanted to hear a nice live boot of it

Tracer Hand, Friday, 9 January 2009 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

'tomorrow's dream' really has a lovely groove to it. hopefully that gets some votes.

Charlie Howard, Friday, 9 January 2009 15:35 (seventeen years ago)

I love sabbath but when I listen to "supernaut" I start to think my copy of vol 4 has a different version than everybody else's, you all have got mysterious access to this secret awesome song

Maybe the things that make Supernaut great are slightly different from the things that make Sabbath great. I kind of like a few Sabbath things, but I LOVE Supernaut!

Also, really fun guitar riff to play.

The acoustic guitar and percussion breakdown is just so good.

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 9 January 2009 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

snowblind is such a great cautionary tale about being sure to take your warmest jacket with you when you go out into the snow

Charlie Howard, Friday, 9 January 2009 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

has to be 'supernaut'

Michael B, Friday, 9 January 2009 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

Gonna join in the Supernaut love. I wrongly thought the only good Black Sabbath was Paranoid until I downloaded that song from Audiogalaxy, so it's pretty much responsible for me getting into them in the first place.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Friday, 9 January 2009 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

Any answer *other* than "Supernaut" is laughably wrong.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 9 January 2009 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

"But I love the clattering groove of "Tomorrow's Dream", with those stuttering snare hits by Ward."

Ward's awesome on this song.

you've got a lot of experience in being laughably wrong so I'll take your word on this

Edward III, Friday, 9 January 2009 18:14 (seventeen years ago)

Listen to the album.

Alex in NYC, Friday, 9 January 2009 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Saturday, 10 January 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

that was much closer than I expected.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 10 January 2009 01:18 (seventeen years ago)

everyone else who voted cornucopia let's form a band

stuffy old songs about the buttocks (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 10 January 2009 07:51 (seventeen years ago)

didn't vote but I would have voted "Cornucopia" in a heartbeat, without a blink, it's so clearly the best track on this album. but I was taking a break from ILX and didn't even see this. Too bad. Laughable at all the knee-jerk "Supernaut" votes. Must be a lot of big James Gang fans. Cool track, but nothing like the ridiculous majesty of "Cornucopia" and "Wheels of Confusion".

Stylez G. White (Stormy Davis), Saturday, 10 January 2009 07:57 (seventeen years ago)

i voted cornucopia! and i'm a james gang fan! (no really!)

Test Tube Teens from the Year 1754 (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

(also, i play bass!)

Test Tube Teens from the Year 1754 (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

eight years pass...

production on this thing is pretty $$$

j., Friday, 29 September 2017 00:13 (eight years ago)

haha awesome and fitting that supernaut completely obliterated every other song!

brimstead, Friday, 29 September 2017 01:11 (eight years ago)

I disagree, I really dislike the trebly sound of this record. The worst sounding of the essential Ozzy Sabbath records for me.

more Allegro-like (Turrican), Friday, 29 September 2017 06:10 (eight years ago)

Then you must not like the first two either ?

I prefer it to the thick brown mud of the third. But I guess that was the point.

calstars, Friday, 29 September 2017 12:17 (eight years ago)

people dissing the James Gang is so typical of old ILX basic ass opinions

Universal LULU Nation (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 29 September 2017 12:56 (eight years ago)

xpost:

No, I like the sound of the first two Sabbath records just fine. They sound great, and are both considerably less trebly than Vol. 4 ... it probably sounded amazing to the band at the time, though.
