FFS that was dreadful.
"credit crunch, what credit crunch?"

snoball, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 21:43 (seventeen years ago)

know me when you see the sperm in your area

Starts off great, but synths kind of ruin the feel. As soon as Jim and Juelz start talking, turns distinctly awful.

served by boot-face (contenderizer), Tuesday, 30 December 2008 21:43 (seventeen years ago)

you might enjoy the original then, which doesn't have jim or juelz

OHHHHHHHHHHH POP CHAMPAGNE

The Reverend, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

Haha - I'm usually pretty out of the loop on new hip hop tracks, but I happened to catch this video the other day when flipping through the channel. I liked it for a minute because it had a pretty good beat (sort of reminded me of Clipse), but the rhyming was pretty terrible.

Moodles, Tuesday, 30 December 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

When the beat kicks in, it's magical. Everything else is awful.

By the time the chorus starts, he's completely off tune and beat.

i used to think that the synths turned the song into a mess but the "i wanna see you dance see you dance" part is really a nice release of the tension built up by the drum pattern

This song is boring and the thread title made me think it was going to be Chris Rock's "Champagne."

The People's Republic of Padgettstan (some dude), Wednesday, 31 December 2008 00:44 (seventeen years ago)

although it's pretty funny that when the same interviewer asked Browz to respond dude was basically all "well, I did make the song 2 days after I got the plug-in..." and T-Pain appeared on the "Arab Money" remix anyway.

& the kim line about "champagne in my veins, even put it in my douche bottle"

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 02:07 (seventeen years ago)

Saying that the autotune on pop champagne "isn't used well" is like saying the steel drum on crank that or the synths on laffy taffy aren't used well; it overlooks the fact that the song works.

aggy new year (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Sunday, 4 January 2009 00:07 (seventeen years ago)

let's just be happy it was jimmy who stole this track and not 50 and tony yayo

aggy new year (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Sunday, 4 January 2009 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

I was going to object to that, then I realized that sadly enough, I would rather hear Jones & Santana verses right now than Fiddy and Yayo.

a remix of it actually

choom gangsta (deej), Sunday, 4 January 2009 00:17 (seventeen years ago)

strut quote:

The tension laced in this beat is huge. The minimal percussion part goes on for so long. This is minimalist innovation - no one in rapp would have done this in the 90s. Forgoing the kick-snare dichotomy and expanding into the ether of percussion buttons. This is a post-snap thriller of a beat, based mainly on tom-toms or tom-tom stand-ins.

The tension: when the big beat comes in to let the rapper righteously ride, that beat is just a little off of the main percussion part. It's kind of retarded, like a car that's pulling to the left when one of the wheels is a little crooked. It still rides, but it makes your body want to move in two different ways.

Ask yourself: If I was at home (you were) and made this retarded-ass combo of two beats (you didn't) would I have thrown it away in the "demo" pile because the beats didn't match up? The genius is in bringing the tension to the people - if there's a teacher in the house, somebody's gonna get taut!

The Reverend, Sunday, 4 January 2009 09:52 (seventeen years ago)

its really about the beat

choom gangsta (deej), Sunday, 4 January 2009 09:53 (seventeen years ago)

naw, I love Browz's chirpy vocals, the more of them the better

The Reverend, Sunday, 4 January 2009 09:54 (seventeen years ago)

i figured browz would still be in the remix

choom gangsta (deej), Sunday, 4 January 2009 09:56 (seventeen years ago)

it's about the beat but it's the kind of beat which really allows a vocalist to shine (and magnifies their fuck-ups too) (like, kim's verse starts so well but she does lose it by the end)
