Just Say Jeebus this is brutal. I could make a case for the Smiths, the Cure, Echo, Morrissey, MBV, or (dark horse) Primal Scream.

But fuck a whole bunch of Modern English.

Teenage Kicks, no contest. One of the best pop tunes evar. Melt With You, Ca Plane Pour Moi, Warm Leatherette and Oblivious are great, too, but nowhere near. Love the Saints, but I'd take a bunch of other songs before Stranded (Frantic Romantic!). Midset detour into Morcheeba & Bomb the Bass is baffling.

I'm goin off the beaten path here and choosing The Mighty Lemon Drops. Plenty of great tracks to be heard here, but I've always ALWAYS loved that song.

"Oblivious". A bit disappointed to see no Depeche Mode nor Yaz(oo) here. Weren't they on Sire in the US?

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

Too many good choices here. I'm going to abstain. That B-Movie record was utter shite, though.

With Oatmeal Sauce (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Wednesday, 31 December 2008 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

@Geir: Both were represented on CD1.

Normal vs. Saints vs. Soon

I like how very few of these tracks are just average. They are either great or atrocious.

"I Melt With You"

xhuxk, Monday, 5 January 2009 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

i like the way whats new scooby doo dropped plastic bertrand into an "in france" ep

i was thinking of voting for "Come Together" but it was the 7" version and not the 12" version. i also thought that no-one was going to vote for it, kind of sad that Ride got no votes.

Bee OK, Monday, 5 January 2009 05:08 (seventeen years ago)

ooh.

What a travesty!

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 6 January 2009 15:31 (seventeen years ago)

I kept quiet when the results came out for this poll. But it's causing me to have pent up passive-aggressive frustrated "fuck off" feelings about other Sire polls which I should really not boycott and try to be optimistic about despite this disaster.

So I am going to tell you something. People who vote for Primal Scream over

1)The Smiths
2)Echo & The Bunnymen
3)My Bloody Valentine's Best Song Ever
4)early Morrissey
5)The Cure
6)Aztec Camera's Best Song Ever

Not to mention...well a LOT of other songs here it would have been *perfectly* acceptable for vote for, but you chose Primal Scream?

Please don't vote in a poll when you haven't heard even half the other choices. And if you did, please get better music tastes and broaden your horizons. Thank you.

Forget it, Jake. It's Britishes.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 05:42 (seventeen years ago)

No, I'm not going to blame it on Britishers. That is no excuse.

Shoegazey Goth Metal Phone (Bimble), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 06:24 (seventeen years ago)

he's right, is bimb.

I mean, it's the 7" version! It's nice enough, but...

The 12" remix version is fine/immense, but it would not belong on this CD to be fair.
