The Reverend, Thursday, 1 January 2009 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

TRONIC is freaking awse

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:50 (seventeen years ago)

Weirdly, between the Fat Ray album, and the Elzhi (which he produced, what, 80% of?), "Tronic" may be the weakest full-length he put out last year, but it's still great. "Losing Out" was probably rap track of the year for me.

Keep Carmody and Carry On (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:53 (seventeen years ago)

"losing out" and actually a lot of this album sounds like jay-z rapping over some kind of basement tapes

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 January 2009 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

i.e. there's a kind of woozy clattery sound to even the most grandiose of the backing tracks..

i luv luv luv the live drumkit

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 January 2009 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

'Black milk' always makes me think of Death Fugue by Paul Celan

Yehudi Menudo (NickB), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

what's a good live drum-ish track? i listened to a couple that sounded pretty cool but the rapping was in one ear out the other.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:14 (seventeen years ago)

"Give The Drummer Sum"

The boy with the Arab money (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:15 (seventeen years ago)

I kinda like the "meh" quality of Milk's rhymes as well, anything deeper than "You're dead like the corpse in the grave/Thoroughbred winner like the horse in the race" would detract from the beats.

The boy with the Arab money (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:16 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, that's the best out of what i've heard.

xp

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

^ probably the worst line on the whole album

xp

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

What's the relationship between this and Celan?

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

the helium voice on give the drummer sum is pretty annoying

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:41 (seventeen years ago)

What's the relationship between this and Celan?

Mordy, were you asking me cos I mentioned him?

Yehudi Menudo (NickB), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

Nah. I didn't even notice your post. I just assumed there had to be a connection. (I even thought this was a Celan thread when I opened it.)

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

Haha, yeah me too! I think it's coincidence though.

Yehudi Menudo (NickB), Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

We should start a Celan thread tho. One of my fave poets of all time. (Top 5, easy)

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

I need to hear that Elzhi record

FUTURE HOOS: stronger better faster hooser (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Thursday, 8 January 2009 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

sous les paves, Thursday, 8 January 2009 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

Fat Beats put out a free mix CD called "Elec" with all Black Milk related shit on it right before Tronic came out. it looks like you can DL it from here:

http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/2008/10/black-milk-elec-mixtape

i think it is the best representation of his shit, and one of my favorite hiphop related joints of 08.
