(oops that was me playing with misheard lyrics)

minna, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

upon second listen: it's underworld's star guitar. it's fast, summery and kind of boring in a good way - expertly calculated bliss-inducing exercise.

minna, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll download it as soon as I can get AG working again and stop dancing to Erick Morillo.

Ronan, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Listened to it once yesterday - it's got an eighties vibe re the vocals and melodies.

DJ Martian, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This makes me very excited! When does the album come out?

Keiko, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

SEPTEMBER !

DJ Martian, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

UNDERWORLD IN FRENCH HOUSE SHOCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They've really lost the darkness that made them Underworld. I love this tune though.

Ronan, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just liked the beggining, the vocals are too low and incredibly dud and the growing synths only work when they are actually growing, just pretty mediocre. But i thinked Underworld had splitted?

Chupa-Cabras, Sunday, 16 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no the young one Darren Emerson decided to leave the band to concentrate on djing, Underworld decided to continue as a duo of Hyde and Smith.

DJ Martian, Sunday, 16 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

excited *beyond words* at the prospect of 'underworld go french housey' - am about 2 go 2 audiogalaxy with my tongue, quite literally hangin out.

piscesboy, Sunday, 16 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The album is actually fairly low key n' chilled. "Two Months Off" isn't really indictive of the rest of the collection. You could say bits of it sound like early 80's rNb, Swayzak, ADNY/Persuader, Talk Talk ('Spirit of Eden' - 'Laughing Stock' period), and "Dark and Long".

scott, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Although fairly formulaic Underworld that's generally no bad thing in my opinion. Fairly long, drawn out track with some nice bits and probably some great bits if I hadn't heard it on the 20 squid shit- box that is my kitchen stereo...

Rick, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Talk Talk ('Spirit of Eden' - 'Laughing Stock' period)

! Sounds good to me!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually like this track - not groundbreaking or anything, but it is a good track in it's own right. the problem i have though, is that i tend to expect more from underworld - something not as easily accessible perhaps.. i'll definately be interested to hear some other stuff from the album.

Keiko DJ Martian was yelling at you because you haven't been reading his weblog.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nope. don't like it much. nowhere near as good as 'funny break' or 'star guitar'. who said it sounds like french house ? it sounds just like underworld. dead disappointed i am, but then 'king of snake' wasn't up to much anyway so let's not judge an album on a single.

what's odd is that everyone else seems to love it.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It does sound like French House, it's about a beat away from being the traditional Stardust thing. The only difference is it's big Underworld synths doing it.

Ronan, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

am i listening to the right thing ? it sounds *nothing* like stardust!!

maybe it's my hearing...

piscesboy, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Stardust connection isn't direct, but it's there.

I will say that I adore this for all the same reasons that I adore "Kittens".

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 19 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
I think it's an excellent track. Not a departure for Underworld, but who says that everything has to be groundbreaking? I have to say this, though, I don't see ANY similarity between this song and French house, and I don't really think I could take a French-housey track from Underworld seriously. Peas, Ronny

Ronny Louvre, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It does not sound like french house, because it sounds *exactly* like "Big Love" by Pete Heller with some monologue from a Human Traffic type movie playing over it. I really like it anyway.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i've downloaded half the album but it doesnt seem as exciting as the last 3 albums - perhaps they;ve streteched the formula too much. irnoically it all has a real emerson feel!
