I've spent an hour and a half listening to their first two albums on lala.com and I'm hooked and ready to buy their second album "Xuvetyn".

As well you should.

I think I've probably called them the great lost gaze band of the early nineties or something similar -- the key thing about them was the sheer violence of their sound, Scott Cortez had some absolutely fucked up extremes he reached at times.

I just ordered "Xuvetyn" and I'm three tracks away from hearing the entire album. I can't wait to hear how this sounds on stereo speakers. This definitely doesn't feel as long as their first album "bloweyelashwish".

is the 'girl.echo.suns.veils' thing some sort of retrospective or is it a new record?

Hmmm. Strange I hadn't heard of this.

three weeks pass...

The funny thing is that I'm not all that into it now. I still feel that it's pretty, but it lacks the emotion of Loveless, or to pick a more recent release, Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill. Before the first half ends it always turns into background music. Do I remember when I bought all those Ambient records by Brian Eno? I don't know. Half the time I feel like I need bigger speakers to really appreciate it. This is so strange. Maybe the lead female singer needed more to do. Like, just look at the liner notes. The dude assembled God knows what to produce these songs, and all the female singer did was sing about nothing prettily. Bilinda Butcher at least sounded sexy and wrote her own lyrics.

This is so strange. To be continued I suppose. Who knows how I'll feel about it when I have a girlfriend.

I impressed a girl once by hearing a bit of a song by them before she skipped past it (iPod on shuffle) and knowing who it was... she was like "but it's just noise! how can you tell who it is?" I was like "how could you NOT know who this is, if you've ever listened to an album of theirs?" And then I realized she probably couldn't tell the difference between MBV and lovesliescrushing, and I had wasted my life.

one year passes...

can anyone speak to Girl Echo Sun Veils, the new album from last year?

(...Ned, u there?)

There seems to be a new album "Aviatrix" up on Spotify (http://open.spotify.com/album/63Rn4aWuzcLWgHcvOPAx1i), can't find much info about it. It's not the same as Girl Echo Sun Veils, though that also seems to have a track called "Aviatrix". Haven't heard either yet, though I've liked what lovesliescrushing I've heard in the past.

Girl Echo Sun Veils was actually a retrospective compilation rather than a new release, focusing on unreleased stuff -- it's talked about upthread a bit.

I have never been able to keep love lies crushing, love spirals downward, and soul whirling somewhere straight.

haha, they're pretty distinct akm! nice article Ned... I've got half a dozen albums by them and that's the first time I've ever read anything about the people in the band!
