Audiogalaxy Alternatives?

With Audiogalaxy's demise on the horizon, we have to begin looking for a new file-sharing program. Has anyone here found anything worthwhile? Is/was Audiogalaxy the perfect filesharing program? I mean, suddenly there's all this semi-obscure stuff finally available to us. Is there anything out there that can find stuff as obscure as Audiogalaxy? I mean, if I want to download the new Britney Spears single, WinMX is all fine and good, but what if I want some Cocteau Twins BBC sessions track? What then??

I like soulseek (www.soulseek.org). I just checked and people are sharing cocteau twins BBC sessions :)

soulseek is the only one i've used (well i used napster a bit years ago) and in general, i like it. it has several bugs, but the software is updated every few days. with a much smaller base of users, you often have to wait for quite a while (10 hours or more?? i'm not 100% sure) for downloads to start, because people have so many cued up in front of you. for instance, right now i see about 800 users online, so that's fairly limiting. obviously less users = less files.

the community is supposedly idm-oriented, but i find a lot of rock, hiphop, etc. around. you can share whatever parts of your hard drive you want to (you don't even have to share at all, although it is frowned upon)

i'm sure audiogalaxy is/was much better, but i can't really say, having never used it. i have heard many complaints about spyware etc. with AG. soulseek seems very non-invasive, but i'd be curious to hear what a more computer savvy person has to say about that... and i suppose if soulseek grew to AG proportions, it'd just be targeted by the RIAA and shut down. then there'd be other small sharing communites to move to, and so on. how ridiculous

just did a cocteau twins search and bbc 2disc set no problem. there's a huge list of CT songs. stuff i've DL off soulseek: cat power live tracks incl. peel sessions (some are crappy recordings though), j-live, streets, mbv, boards of canada, dillinger, mum, mirah, aerial m, el-p, breeders, autechre, air, tahiti 80, shadow, akufen, 112, amon tobin, craig mack, takako minekawa...

Sweet Lord! Soulseek is absolutely great! Thank you very much for telling me of it!

Although fairly formulaic Underworld that's generally no bad thing in my opinion. Fairly long, drawn out track with some nice bits and probably some great bits if I hadn't heard it on the 20 squid shit- box that is my kitchen stereo...

Okay then--what about if you've got a Mac?

I'm not sure if it's a glitch on my end or what, but it would appear that some time within the last half an hour, every track on Audiogalaxy became blocked/unavailable. Anybody else seeing this?

Stuart, Monday, 17 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All except the explicitly-sponsored files, i guess...

When I saw a screen full of blocked songs just now by, of all people, Levitation, I had a feeling something was amiss.

Douglas, I've been using Virtual PC to run the AG Satellite on my Mac, so if there's any way you can get ahold of it, that's your best bet for Soulseek, too.

It seems audiogalaxy has finally died.

ten months pass...
hey I was wondering are there any Peer to peer file sharing application such as Audiogalaxy. Is there someting better. Kazaa for know is the best but say if you are finding a hot new song, the single that you will most likely get is a repetative song

How did you learn to write, but not read? Truly anomalous.

I havent been able to get any results for any of the things Ive searched on Soul Seek, and find the interface to be very annoying. Kazaa lite has it all baby.
