I rather like it. No major groundbreaking, but the songs are GOOD

I really like it too, especially the forays into more beat heavy electronic stuff.

No, is it out. I checked last Tuesday. Maybe this Tuesday? I am excited.

I overheard a promo at the local store, and just couldn't get into it... and I like "The Soft Bulletin". But I've yet to give it a full listen, so until then...

I have it, and I like it a lot. It's nothing new for them, but the songs are catchier than anything off The Soft Bulletin. I think it's officially released in early July..

I've read that the lp's title is dedicated to yoshimi from the japanese rock band boredoms, who ,I think plays in the record. This fact alone forces the buying, I think.

I still think it's amazing after about two months of listening. I've actually enjoyed this a lot more that 'the Soft Bulletin', which is certainly saying something.

Plenty of opinion on it (and my explanation of why it doesn't work so well for me) over here.

Also if the involvement of various Boredoms "forces buying" then I hope you have a whole lot of money: even limiting it to Yoshimi I for one still need to finish with the OOIOO records.

I like it. The lips are falling into the catagory of perverse adult alternative, which has an hint of acessibility but is still kooky. I expect the critics will cream their pants over this album.

Answered elsewhere on the Lips C or D thread, but I like it okay. I think I'm disappointed because it does sound too much like The Soft Bulletin, no real moves forward that I can hear. I'll get it anyway, when it's finally out on the street.

nabisco_ yes it takes a certain degree of sacrifice to follow boredoms's linked records, but f.l. is not the priceist thing I can think of.....

I love Fight Test and Do You Realize from Yoshimi...that said as a whole the record is a disappointment. Not that I was expecting another Soft Bulletin (the record of 1999, no questions), but I was expecting another album of solid hooks and arrangements, even if it was in a similar vein to Soft Bulletin (not some huge stylistic jump was necessary). too many songs on Yoshimi stay in the same mellow mood and don't seem to fully develop or reach a firm conclusion (ego trippin, track #6, the last two songs). Where are some more upbeat bombastic Slow Nerve drum-style rockers? Basically, Yoshimi hasn't connected with me and stayed in rotation that way Soft Bulletin did.

My problem with "yoshimi" is roughly the same problem I had with the last Built To Spill record "Ancient Melodies.. etc."... With each record, the band in question sounds like both a) they're hovering in place, or b) another band trying to sound exactly like them, but missing some subtle nuances that make the "original" band special.

I saw the video for "do you realise" on MTV:new, it was pretty good.

They stole the melody for "Fight Test" from Cat Steven's "Father and Son". Also, I don't hear the whiny faux-naive vocals on this song so much. So I love it, so far. But that's all I've heard.

Cat Stevens...I knew Fight test sounded really familiar and that must be it...good call.
