What does anyone here think about this album? I don't understand it at all.

Well, it's better than 'Islands'.

Also, anybody who thinks Adrian elew is amusing has seen the off-Broadway production of "Byrnemania!" more times than is healthy

what you have to understand is: robert fripp sucked in the studio post 79. he totally lost his groove. however live performances from around this time are amazing.

but on the upside: toyah!!

Larks Tongue in Aspic part III is great, however dated. I still like it - but maybe because I saw that tour...

As I recall, the worst of the 80s records. I also recall the second half of LT3 not being good because they decided they wanted to be angry and dissonant for some reason.

I prefer 'Islands' ahead of 'Three of a Perfect Pair anyday.

In fact, I'd probably prefer Islands over all 80s King Crimson.

It may not be the best of that particular era/incarnation (that would be DISCIPLINE), but let's remember, it *DOES* feature "Sleepless," which is positively celestial by my count. The title track ain't bad neither.

And it's a *FUCKLOAD* better than Thrak, Vrroom, Thrakawhackasmacktack or whatever.

Like others above, I haven't heard it for a long time, but I agree with those who consider it the worst of the 80's albums. Adrian Belew's singing is a real problem for me even on "Discipline," which I think could be quite a bit better with a different singer (and possibly different lyrics).

DeRayMi, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

why do people not like 'Islands'?

The title track is excellent.

Geoffrey Balasoglou, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I too found it to be the worst of the 80's albums.

Sean, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But all the tracks from it sound great live on 'Absent Lovers'.

'you see it SOUNDS like a factory!' eh

I like it more than Beat (for the most part, though Beat's highs are higher), not as much as Discipline. Sounds the msot dated of the three, but in a cool, ultra-synthetic kind of way that I like. "Industry" is killer, so is "Dig Me" and "No Warning". Bleak 'n' sludgy, niiiice. I also like each and every of the four vocal tracks on Side A, or at least they are not as banal as "Heartbeat".

My favorite KC album is Beat but Three of a Perfect Pair comes in a close second (Discipline would be third...in my world, King Crimson were a monster talented new wave band from the eighties that only made three albums). Three of a Perfect Pair is the product of the band coming apart at the seams and going in separate directions. Fripp was already giving up, so he allowed Belew to be poppy, Bruford to be regressive and Levin to be perfect as always).

brian, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'giving up'? but aren't there mainstream and pop elements in all the previous period's albums?

Josh, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't acknowledge earlier incarnations...very little progressive rock appeals to me.
