mf grimm - the downfall of iblis: a ghetto opera

(hefty title eh?). i've been keenly anticipating the release of this album for quite some time now... somebody told me it's actually out now - is this true? has anyone heard it? it doesn't seem to exist anywhere but in vague rumours. i pulled out the mfs grimm/doom split ep the other day, and it only made me want this album more: grimm's tracks are the best on it (but also interesting - being able to see the beginnings of doom's 'viktor vaughn' flirtations with drum n bass).

four months pass...
ok i got impatient and downloaded it, and it is great! very serious, but that's grimm.

oh and for the love of god can someone write some better amg entries for mfs doom and grimm? i mean:

"AMG EXPERT REVIEW:"Landslide Remix" has a mellow beat featuring some nice piano sounds, M.F. Grimm's lyrics are not as mellow as the beat but it still sounds nice. The beat on "Tick Tick" changes tempo, at times its very slow then it speeds up a little, then it slows down again. It has some eerie violins that are nice, but the beat is just to slow most of the time"

that's just ridiculous. if i could write i would do it myself but meanwhile i appeal to all you out there with far superior skillz!

what makes these mfs so cool anyway

i'll have a long hard think about it just for you boxcubed, but superficially i love doom's elevator music beats, i love their off key singing and i'm a bit in awe of grimm's life story (combine factors #2 & #3 for grimm's cover of sisqo's 'the thong song' - the gun song)

i don't know too much about the history of grimm, but mf doom started in on of my favorite highschool hip hop groups KMD. they were fun and had great hooks and beats (Peachfuzz), but didn't age as well as the tribes and de las. possibly because the beats were a little faster??

well the mf doom album is amazing. it has the strangest samples i've heard from a hip hop album in a long time. not the layered dark el p kinda beats, but cheesy 80s r'n'b samples that are tweaked in a way to make them wonderful. and he raps in a dirty ny style similar to either mobb deep or a wu tang member.

also a cool factor: he has comic book and cartoon samples all through the album. there are a bunch of dr doom samples and one song is all based off noises and music from Scooby Doo.

i think i'm lazy and i want someone else to tell me why i like the mfs so much, so that's why i keep starting threads about them and bringing them up all the time. i will try harder.

You guys know DC/Vertigo is publishing an autobio graphic novel written by Grimm this fall, right?

(Someone else does the art, can't recall his name but the mockup I saw looked pretty good).
